After an early pick up from the Castle we drove along a fairly bumpy road to be transfered to a 4x4 to journey into Chitwan Jungle for a couple nights of living in the wild; luckily we didnt see Bear Grylls eating any bugs.
We stayed at Chitwan Jungle Lodge which was nice, but only a few hours of electricity a day so our head torches were well used. On arrival we were given our briefing and were told we must not leave our rooms after 11pm under any circumstance as it was likely if we did we would get dragged into the jungle and mawled by a wild animal (seriously). The first night we kept waking up to strange animal noises from the jungle. We saw the sunrise and sunset over the jungle whilst riding on the back of elephants which was an amazing experience. We spent alot of time with the elephants which was fantastic and Jane also got to feed a baby elephant an elephant cookie but then it snotted on her. On our second day we went on a canoe ride which was quite peaceful apart from Mark kept getting soaked, on the walk back through the jungle we saw tiger footprints (although we suspect they may have been placed there), a croc lazing under a tree and just when we thought we wouldn't see any rhinos we had quite a close encounter as our paths headed towards each other, luckily though he was more scared of us and ran away; good job as there wasn't any decent trees for us to climb. We also went on a nature walk through tiger country and unpredictable land (the guide had previously been bitten by a bear here, he even showed us the teeth marks on his leg), our guide also got us a bit lost in the jungle which was fun. Early the next morning we went on a jungle drive deep into the jungle just the two of us,our guide and driver and had fun cruising around sometimes at high speeds and saw monkeys playing in the trees and some deer. No tigers though!
We had a great time staying at the lodge with fantastic guides who were really friendly and knowledgable with very good eyesight, we knew we would be safe when they had a stick for protection from rhinos and tigers!!
Everyone should go to Chitwan and stay at the Jungle Lodge if you don't go you are a square.
