3rd aug - BRIDGE CLIMB
We had a little climb to fit in before that tho!! we booked up for the Harbour Bridge Climb... something that ive wanted to do for years.
The friday morning ... anniversary day! IT was raining ... b*****! we might just get wet as they dont stop the bridge climb for anyone unles of course it disappears, not likey! we ventured to the rocks the oldest part of Sydney! we signed in and got startrekked up!!
they give you a grey jumpsuit and all the attachments literally.Mark had attachments for his glasses and hair bobbles even needed to be attached somehow. Also we took fleeces, coats and beanies which were all secured to your jumpsuit with extra clips and rings. We moved on to the next point on the conveyer belt where we attached other bits and peices to our harness and got miked up! A simulated part of the bridge tested our nerves as there was only one way once we were on the bridge!! UP! before the down bit!
we headed off throug a residential part first all in a row like star trek auditionees! The point of no return and it rained so we macked up before the climb. 52000 tonnes of steel ahead of us made this bridge the Biggest of its kind in the world. 6 million rivots in the bridge , of which 11000 ended in the harbour at the time it was built! still there now! the climb was great . a few unnerving bits when you ( well me!) found yourselves thinkin too much!! we had lots of ladders to climb and lots of steps before the top but, we greeted the traffic and were told not to wave.. I didnt ! for those of you that thought i would! we had pictures at the top and not wanting just cheese smiles mark and i did true FLETCHER style siiliness as we ( again I!)couldnt contain the excitement. Here we were stood on the top of the most amazing bridge in the world , on our honeymoon and with my .. my HUSBAND! for him vice versa!
We climbed down the other half not really wanting it to finish. We bought a couple of the pics and headed through the rocks to take in the views of the opera house at ground level.
Our day had been exciting but it didnt fininsh there! A call from vic! hoping that we'd find out what theyd been up to and when we could catch up they delivered the news!! A treat would await us... We remembered that vic and andrew had posted a handmade honeymoon voucher into our wedding card! It said it was only redeemable in Australia. The cheeky little voice , al;most as excited as me said all we needed to do was geet to Katoomba, Blue Mountains! Vic and and knew it was on our itinery whilst in sydney and we knew that we wanted to visit ever since we had been to oz before and because of the love luke and kim had of this place!
They had the wonderful idea of.. once they knew our whereabouts to book us into a boutique guesthouse.. with the luxury of a bath and breakfast of the cooked kind!! We couldnt wait! THANKYOU XX we decided that we would head to the mountains on the sunday and spend a couple of days in the blue 'bush'!
Sat 4
we got luck on ebay!!! we scored tickets to a james morrison concert and his big band Band. We had tried the previous evening at the opera house but there was only one ticket left! we thought wed take a chance. the tickets ... the only two on ebay were buy it now and in circular Quay ready for pick up !! we didnt need any more signs!
we later took in more of sydneys sights! we were used to George street now! and the length of it ! its better this way we keep telling ourselves all this walking is good for us! we walked for hours and hours.... first through the city shopping arcades and stopped for a coffee at the entrance to Hyde Park where a very vocal and vibrant game of park chess was being played by the lacal italians!! there is definately something about central city park... a haven away from the hub. we continued through the botanical gardens saw the fruit bats sleeping, through the Government house gardens, elizabeth chair ( from the stone formation) that backed on to the harbour.
We cooked up a vegetable and pasta concoction - of the usual kind before hitting the sack.
An exciting few days ahead.
