Mark & Den's Travels
June
Well what can I say this time!! We are having a lovely stay on the west coast, for me this is ten times better than the east coast rugged coast line. mediteraen climate. We have met up with friends from the UK John & Elaine who are migrating out to Brisabane for their retirement. (good luck to you both) We are currently staying with friends from the UK. Jean and Peter. See photo. Last week we travelled down to the southwest corner. Albany first stop, lovely little fishermans town used to thrive on WHALING but now have seen sense. Lovely white sandy beaches with beatiful blue seas, cold though not brave enough to dangle my toes.. Valley of the Giants was one of our main stops here we saw Tingle Trees Red and yellow, NO they were not red and Yellow that is their names. anyway they grow to approx 70mtrs and have a girth of 20mtrs ages ranging upto 400 yrs old. You can see Mark and I underneath some of them. We take a walk across the tree tops on a suspension bridge. mh!! for me I would rather throw myself out of a plane!! it wobbles as you walk and its a long way up 40mtrs at its highest point. I was so BRAVE and enjoyed it so MUCH I HAD to do it again!!
We travel along the coast to Augusta. Cape Leeuwin where south seas meet the Indian ocean. this is the most southwesterly point of the mainland. like many other capes it's wild and untaming. we have the opportunity to enter into the lighthouse 179 steps and worth everyone. the views at the top were stunning. Mark as always enjoys the machinery how does this work?? What happens when?? more toys for the boys!! out side the lighthouse is the working wheel where they cut the stone to build amazing this was all done with a lot of sweat and hands.Further along the coast line we find the natural wonders that always inspires the imagination!! a Natural Bridge rock formation. blow holes. but the sea was to calm. Whilst we are gazing out to sea for the odd passing whale a rainbow is in full glory and moving our way.. the reflection on the sea is just amazing (must see photo's).
Margret River next stop!! This a Vineyard area with lots to try.Like hunters Valley there are many coaches to take you around But NO I have convinced Mark to take out some Cycles. We have a beautiful weather the sun is shining we cycle ten mile route around the Margret River up to the dam. not much water in it though.. Still not enough I encourage Mark to cycle to Pravelly Beach just another 10 miles the other direction. Here we stop take breath and enjoy an afternoon lazing in the sun. doesnt do much good for the legs that have seized up though.
We head North now to Busselton here is the longest jetty in AUS. 2km long and mostly all the original structure. It even has a train that runs up the length. NO we walk it!!. The wind is blowing, the seas are rough and its just magical. The observatory is closed due to bad VIZ, but thats OK. !!
We return to Perth for some more special social time with Jean & Peter before heading off to Bangkok.YES ASIA is next Watch in and see how we get on!!
