Mark & Den's Travels
7th July Saigon as the locals still refer to it. Well after Leaving a very sad time in Cambodia it was almost a pleasure to enter Vietnam you could see the difference immediately after crossing the border. First impressions of Saigon very big busstling city however very much cleaner. Brand new shopping centres and the usual poor back street areas.
People here ares still very poor but are trying to be self sufficent lots of small farm holdings growing anything thye possibly can from strawberries to broccolli. Took a tour down to the Mekong delta passing by some of these villages. (see photo) We had boat trips to visit coconut candy factory, Children singing local folk songs, cycling in local village. tour through canals by rowing boat mark had lovely girls rowing his.. Very beautiful area.
We had our lazy heads on after many sight seeing trips so we took up the offer of 2 CYCLO BOYS/MEN who pedalled us around the city like royalty felt a bit embarrassed at first but soon learnt to sit back and enjoy the scenery . We are often head onto oncoming traffic. The guys just keep pedalling and everything manages to go around us. Typical of the times we were provided with face mask to protect us from the fumes.
Done enough of cities we are now off to Dalat honey moon city.
