Mark & Den's Travels
30th Dec - 1st Jan 2006
Tramping The Abel Tasman. So you think we would have had enough NO we now have to do it by foot.
30th Dec Mark gets dropped off at Bark Bay to commence a days tramping to Waiharakeke Bay, which includes crossing the Estuary of Awaroa River, he has to be there within an hour of low tide otherwise he is unable to cross so he goes marching off. I how ever get dropped off at Waiharakeke Bay with all our camping provisions, extra weight this time because its new years eve, so plenty of the good stuff.( I am not able to walk , I have a very inflamed knee which just needs resting not tramping.) The tent is up the beers are cold just waiting for my man to enjoy. we have lovely evening the weather is good and their are loads of stars out tonight, we are on the beach!!.
Day 2 New Years Eve I get picked up again and transported to Mutton Cove which is as far north as the taxi's go. I wait for Mark and we walk another hour with full packs and sore knee to Whairwharangi Bay which is the most northerly point in the park, I am very slow but we make it no probs. Well this site and beach was the best, only another 5 tents and us, so we all eat together our own prepared food and drinks. The D.O.C officer visit for his dues and has some wine with us, and gives us permission to have a small fire in the BBQ area. We are very careful not to make it to large so it doesnt catch elsewhere. A very socialable way to see in 2006.
1ST Jan 2006 - Late breakfast decamp and are off for return walk to Totaranui where the water taxi will meet us, very slow walk, get told off by birds who are nesting on the beach, if they didnt make such a fuss then we wouldn't see them..Wow ever so happy we never stayed at Totaranui Bay 2,500 allowed to stay on site and it was full last night.
