5th-7th Hampi HolyCity.
Wow this place definately gets my highest vote so far as we approach the city on another 10hr bus ride across the Western Ghats, The local farmers use the main highwayto ground their hay!!! Its true They throw great bales of hay on the road for vehicles to run over when ground enough they sweep it up off the road.. The bus driver actually swerves to ensure he gets the largest of piles.. mmh onlythese guys could manage such a feat..
As we walk through the gates of the city we are instructed to report to the police station to register our visit. ( never had to do this before)
Hampi is a small holy city of many temples built between 7th 15th Century. Incredible sculptures take your breath away..The location of this area is what adds to its WOW factor it is surrounded by amazing rock formations great boulders just piled up and around each other. It was like being inside a volcanic mouth never seen anything like this landscape... Anyway second day of temples we took out cycles to visit the further ones. For cycling enthusias we had single gear hercules frames shopping basket included great heavy things. Didnt help us with the hills and the heat.. after several stops at the temples we have to make a stop at the only hotel licensced for alcahol it made our ride home much easier on the way back...
We enjoyed 3 days here and still didnt see them all ME I could have lost myself here for another few days oh well next stop Badami
Just North of Hampi not so often visited off the beaten track a bit, The people here are a little hostile not unfriendly but just dont want to engage in smiles and conversations. twice I had kids trying to grab mybag from me.. Here are Cave temples dating back to 7th Century. We did meet a lovely Muslem family from granny to babies all wanted to chat touch and of course have theie photo taken with us. We agreed to meet them tomorrow for a visit to their home. Sadly this did not happen we waited over an hour but no one came for us.. So we gave cakes & presents to the street kids... Made them very happy.. Actually made me very sad I was really looking forward to the visit..
Oh Well move on Next stop Goa
