We got up early as we caught the bus to Seattle at 10am but had to collect tickets etc first! They insist on you being at the station 1 hour before..silly business!! The journey was a pleasant one with some nice views on the way. The driver kept telling us about key things on the way that were of interest, e.g. the fields where berries are grown because of the richness of the soil, nice towns such as Bellingham on the North West Pacific coast and about Everett where the Boeing planes are made. Was nice to actually know what we were looking at and passing by, he was a very jolly driver!
We arrived in Seattle around 3pm and walked to the hostel which is located in the International District..such a mission! There were plenty of hills which would have been ok with our day bags, but not with our big bags weighing about 15kg! hmmmm! We had a nice surprise when we got to the hostel, it had been refurbished recently so was lovely and new! The carpets even smell new and the showers..well..the shower head is bigger than my hand…beautiful!!! Then there’s the kitchen..which I’m sure is better equipped than ours at home! It has everything..from 3 different sized measuring jugs to a digital cooker..and is so snazzy and new! At least we can cook here, makes it cheaper for us!
We spent the evening having a look around, the city seems huge so only did a small part of it! From what we saw we liked, they too have the small features that make a difference! We went out for dinner as a treat, had the nicest Chinese..since we’ve been away! Mark struggled a little with his..was a bit too hot and spicy..good job I didn’t have what he did!! Was a shame as it was so lovely and it was recommended to us, yet the restaurant was empty!! We popped to the local supermarket which seemed reasonably cheap and managed to get some fresh food for dinners.
Then, as you may have noticed, we spent some time updating photos and the blog! We’re planning to head over to the space needle, union lake and pike square market tomorrow which are at the opposite end of the city to us.
We’ve been away 4 weeks today!! Doesn’t seem that long!!
