Up late, again!! We caught the subway to Lantau Island. On the way we saw a bit more of Hong Kong as the train went above ground. Saw some of the shipping yards, they are huge! There are so many containers stacked up! We also had some lovely views of the sea and the mountains, never thought of it being so picturesque here, especially having been to Hong Kong Central! There is a small Disney land here too, and they have a special train going there with Mickey Mouse shaped windows!! So cool!
Once on the island we got on the cable car which took us on a 25 min journey across the mountains, over the sea, past the airport and through the national park towards the village of Ngong Ping. It was quite an enjoyable journey! We then mooched around the village of Ngong Ping and then went up to see the giant Buddha. He is a huge bronze statue at the top of 200 steps! We then visited the monastery which was interesting to look around and observe the locals worshipping.
After walking back through the village we caught the bus down to Tung Chung. We went through much of the national park which was lovely to see, it looked very untouched. The small town of Tung Chung had many little shops and bakeries, and a outlet centre. The clothes here are cheap anyway, but even cheaper in the outlet centre!! We resisted though! Humf!
We then caught the subway back to Kowloon and headed to the harbour in search of food and to wait for the light show, but from the opposite side of the harbour this time. It wasn’t as impressive though, but perhaps because we had already seen it!
