Mark & Robyn's Travels
There is nothing like having a 7:10 pm flight out of DFW airport on a Monday evening. Because of rush hour traffic, and because there is uncertainty how long TSA lines will be at the airport, we left our house at 3 in the afternoon. There was no rush hour traffic, TSA lines were non-existent, as such even after walking as slow as Robyn as loitering in a book store we were in the Admiral's Club by 4:30 drinking. Oh by the way did I mention that we are in business class and as such we get entry into the Admirals Club, better than sitting with common folk down by the gate. I do flaunt my status on American because it has been a long 23 years of traveling. I still have enough miles right now to book another round trip to Europe for Robyn and myself, that trip can wait for another time. So here I sit waiting and waiting until we can board our plane for that long-ass trip over to London.
Robyn likes to have extra bottles of water every time we fly, I also needed gum and travel kleenix for the trip. I thought no problem I always get those at the little shops inside the airport. DFW Airport in their wisdom decided it was time to update Terminal D, the newest terminal at the airport, and by doing so removed every shop that carries water, gum, candy, kleenix from the part of the terminal we were in. I went on a search mission and 37 gates later found at Travel Mart. We then went up to the Admirals club to wait, and wait. When we came down to board our flight Robyn asked if I had bought any kleenix which in the search for the shop I had forgot. So I hike back 37 gates to get the damn kleenix, no reason to have worked out this morning.
When I got back to the gate the agent announced that the plane would be boarding in a couple of minutes, so we went to get in line and wait for the business class boarding, and wait, and wait. 55 minutes later we board. Okay I am exaggerating it was 7 gates and 15 minutes, but it seemed further and longer. We were flying in one of the newly upgraded 777-300 ER planes for American, these are really nice and the business class section is almost as nice as first class was the first time we went to Europe 4 years ago. Robyn of course had to take a picture of me sitting in my seat because you know I don't have many of those (I am rolling my eyes), anyway that is the only picture she took and the only one to be uploaded.
The flight itself was fine, the entertainment system worked (unlike the last trip to Europe I reference you to the first entry from the 2014 blog), the food was decent, and I didn't sleep. Oh one last thing Robyn did a real good job of limiting what she was taking for this trip, but she crammed everything into two bags one that was a carry-on. Since she can't lift or carry anything heavy since her shoulder surgery last August I am responsible for carrying all her luggage. The carry-on, I believe she decided to bring her set of dumb bells, holy **** was that thing heavy, no need to lift weights on this trip.
