Mark & Robyn's Travels
Another day in Europe and another travel day. I feel like we have had as many travel days as days staying overnight. Today was an Air France flight from Munich to Paris Charles De Gaulle which is about an hour and ten minute flight. An additional reason for staying at the Eden Wolf Hotel in Munich is it is across the street from where the Luftansa airport bus departs. We got through security at the Munich airport without incident this time since Robyn remembered to grab her boarding pass and passport instead of leaving them at security like she did two years ago. I knew the flight was full but realized it was oversold when they called me to the counter and asked if we would be willing to take a later flight. The agent was very friendly and said they would compensate us for our trouble. However, we were determined to get to Paris so I declined. They were not bumping us--simply asking if we would consider taking the later flight. I told Robyn for a person with no status, AA would have simply said you are taking the later flight. The flight left on time, but we seem to attract the young teens whenever we travel, and this time we were sitting amidst about 20 teenagers heading to Paris for the weekend. Not as bad as two years ago with the train trip from Salzburg to Munich but Robyn was annoyed. I had a book and when I start reading I am aware of nothing around me so it is all blocked out.
We got to Paris ahead of schedule--thank you Air France. We grabbed a taxi and that was when the fun began. The taxi driver didn't say much until we ran into some traffic issues and then he started talking. He decided to take a different route off the freeway and comments that everyone is leaving town for the weekend. Of course the first thought that came to me is everyone found out we were coming and decided it was best to just leave, but then he said this was a holiday weekend for the Day of Ascension which I remembered was Thursday the 29th. Then he starts commenting on how bad Paris traffic is and that he hates traffic, kind of ironic since he was a taxi driver. He worked his way across the city honking at other drivers and cussing at bicycle riders it was a great ride. We got to the hotel about 10 minutes later than we should have but the driver did his job. I gave him a good tip and told him to enjoy his holiday.
We are staying again at the Duquesne Eiffel Hotel, which just like the Eden Wolf in Munich, has a location we like. It is about a mile from the Eiffel Tower and faces the tower, so we have a spectacular view. Plus it is near Rue Cler where there are great markets and cafes, and it is close to a metro station. It is pricy but a very nice boutique hotel.
After we checked in we went over to the Military Museum and Napoleon's Tomb. We visited this two years ago but only got through one section of the museum and only had five minutes at the Tomb before it closed. This time we started with the tomb so that we had time to look at what was there. Napoleon's tomb is impressive and big,. In fact I think it is big enough that he is standing instead of laying down. After we left the tomb we went back to the Military Museum to start going through the Army section which started with the Franco Prussian War in 1870 and continued through WW I and WW II. It was a fascinating display but we ran out of time and didn't finish once again. So the next time we come back to Paris I will finish this museum.
We are creatures of comfort and when we find something we like we go back again. There is a café on Rue Cler that has a great French onion soup, and Robyn had been waiting 2 years to have this soup again and she was not disappointed.
Tomorrow we are going back to the Louvre since we want to see more of it, and we also have tickets to go on a tour of the Eiffel Tower.

Debby You are now in my favorite city. Love Paris. You know, if you take cruises through Europe you only have to pack and unpack once. Maybe they should put that on travel brochures. I'm sure I have mentioned this before, but when Liz and I took Ma to Paris for her 80th bday, she met a woman at Napoleans Tomb who lived at Camobell and Frankford. That really impressed Ma and she talked about it the rest of the trip. Didn't take much to impress Ma.
mark_robyn I thought it was around 2003 when you and Liz took Ma to Paris. We do have less luggage this time but will still have to buy an extra bag to get all the crap back that Robyn has bought.
Debby Ma turned 80 December 23, 2002, so you were only off a year. Are you guys planning on coming home? our friend Ed is in London leaving on a cruise going to the Baltics.
mark_robyn I know when ma turned 80 but I thought you went after her birthday in 2003. We will be in London tomorrow May 31 for two days coming home on June 1.
Jhon I hope you didn't mention the war...
mark_robyn I may have mentioned it but I don't think they heard me.
