Uluru makes me feel special, in the couple of days that we are here now. Like I wrote before, we arrived tuesday, by plane and car. I'm feeling rich, so rich. Our hotel is part of the Ayers Rock resort, and oh those beds are so nice! They're not maybe like the beds in the Rotterdam player hotel, but the rooms are just as nice, and the breakfast is amazing too. I have never stayed in a resort, so only that makes me feel special already. :)
Yesterday, Tess and me drove the car toe the foot of Uluru, to inspect that big rock from slower. It's so huge! Tess said that she heard it's as tall as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, only then much bigger of course. We weren't exactly prepared to walk around it, the whole 10 kilometers,so we did a part of the walk. The climbing track was slosed anyway, because they expected temperatures more than 40 degrees for the day.
It's an impressive piece of rock to see so close, and there are several caves that were used by the aboriginals, to learn the kids how to cook, a normal teaching cave and a couple of more. I haven't seen them all, because we didn't do the complete base walk. We made it to a lookout spot after this, to take some photos with the whole rock in it, see here my much desided jump picture for this trip. :))
With the airco blowing in the car, we went back to our resort, to have a couple of hours to relax, we went to the pool to cool off, did some shopping and waited till we had to be at the hotel reception at 6 pm. The evening was for a camelride through the desert, with sunset viewing on the way. The driver took us to the camelfarm, and the group of 9 were put on camels. Our camel was called Alice and I am happy that we were on the camel and not on the camel in front of us. Alice loves to smell people. As least she wasn't smelling at us! :)
The ride was an hour with a couple of photo stops along the way to have some special souvenirs to take home. Beautiful how the desert changes colors when the sun is setting, and both Uluru and the Olga's were impressive in the setting daylight. It's a weird feeling to sit on a walking camel, and I hardly dared to take pics with two hands, as I was a bit afraid to fall off the animal.
Nothing happened, so we made it safely back to the farm. Here was a nice homemade bread waiting for us, and some drinks. Great to end this relaxing evening with.
Today's program brings some different things. We're planning to visit the Olga's, an even bigger thing than Uluru, and it consists of more pieces of rock, forming the Olgas. They strongly advice here to end walks at 11 am, due to rising temperatures. Looking forward to get to see them! The afternoon will probably be as relaxing as yesterday, I still need to work on my tan :P For the evening there's something special, you can sign up for Souds of Silence. This is a dinner in the desert. First you see the sunset, with a glass of champagne, before going for dinner on a table literally in the sand. They will dance aboriginal dances and play the didgeridoo when we can watch the stars. It is told to be a very special activity, so plenty to do here for us.
It's almost 8.30 am here so let's get dressed and off to breakfast. Oh scramled eggs, looking forward to you! Yes, feeling rich for a couple of days, and boy I love it!
