Arrived in Cairns and staying at Gilligans hostel which is huge, it even has its own nightclub and the rooms are amazing en suits and a balcony! After a day of rest I just had a walk around, it's a lot bigger than Darwin but still nice. That night I went out with some people from the hostel starting at the bar downstairs then on to the Woolshed getting in at 7:30, funny night. Anyway enough of the nights out, now for the tours.
My first tour was a dive at the Great Barrier Reef, I was so nervous! We set off at 7am with about a half hour drive to the reef, as my dive wasn't until the end I went on a glass bottom boat which was so good the water is so clear you could see every fish and bit of coral! Dive time! The gear was so heavy and we had to jump in which freaked me out but you pop straight back up because you are inflated. We started just going down to one bar to get used to breathing and you can see right under the boat which got me all panicked so I pulled myself up. I honestly didn't think I would do it, the pressure on my chest was horrible I felt like I couldn't breath it was such a horrible feeling. One of the instructors took we to the side and we swam over to the reef then went down a little bit and felt a bit better because he was telling me to focus on the fish. Eventually we made it down to the bottom and I ended up having a one to one. It was amazing the best experience in my life so far, I saw nemos, dorys, a huge clam, loads of coral, the colours were so stunning! Suddenly the instructor made the awkward turtle sign so I was looking all over then this massive turtle just emerged from below us, I was screaming into my breathing piece I couldn't believe it! We then started to follow it, just amazing! After that I decided to pay for a 2nd dive which we then followed an instructor but were allowed off on our own. Would love to do it again!!!
Last tour in Cairns was uncle Brian's which takes you to a rain forest called the Tablelands, it was a long day but brilliant. We went to see waterfalls including the one where Peter Andre's mysterious girl was filmed, definitely was need for a curtain pose! Also rock sliding which was a great laugh with everyone doing different slide, my favourite was the turtle on your back with arms and legs in the air, I looked so elegant!
Cairns has been a great mixture of partying and activities but now time to go and relax in Magnetic Island.
