Hi from Nepal
Well today was another pre 6am start for our once in a lifetime flight to Mount Everest. The cab driver took us to the airport with two other guys who just happened to live in Wyke, about 5 miles from where we used to live, they say it is a small world!!!!
At the airport we were immediately brought down to Earth with a bump when we checked in the flight had been delayed due to fog. So our 7.30am flight had been put back to 9am. The 9am time came and went and it was nearly 10.30 when we boarded the bus out to the runway to take our seats on the 15 seater aircraft. We were both buzzing with excitement as this was something amazing that we had both been looking forward to. Every seat has a window and once we got airborne it was a short 15 minute flight to where the mountain range started.
You really cannot appreciate how big they are, we were above all the cloud at 25000ft looking down at pure white fluffy clouds and across from us were all the mountains poking through the cloud and stretching skywards looking magnificent in the unpolluted air, with a clear blue background. It was truly magical and we even got to go into the cockpit for a fantastic view of the mountains straight on.
We were actually 5 miles away but it seemed that we were so close due to the sheer size of them, you really felt like you were on top of the world. From up here you can see the attraction of trying to climb and conquer the mountain. Mount Everest or Sagarnatha as it is called stands at 29028ft above sea level and is one of the most beautiful things that we have seen on this trip. It was truly breathtaking but all the other mountains that flank it were amazing also.
Before we knew it the plane turned around and we were heading back to Kathmandu totally ecstatic and although we had a long wait it was so well worth it and something both of us will never ever forget. Soon we had left the white cloud behind and were flying through the mucky grey clouds back to Kathmandu, it was weird to see the change in the cloud as we left the mountains behind.
Back on the ground we got our certificates and then made our way back into Kathmandu where we are currently writing this blog in a bar drinking Everest beer!!!!
Tomorrow we will be back to less exciting things but will also probably have a sleep in.
Lots of Love
M & M
