Hi from Nepal
As is usual everything associated with India is never straightforward and leaving proved to be no different.
Our driver turned up nearly 1 hour late to take us to the airport, we then got stuck in a traffic accident, then the driver stopped for fuel before taking us to the airport!!!
Luckily nothing seems to leave on time and the flight was no different, checking in was an experience people pushing each other around and not waiting. The airport proudly proclaimed that it can handle 200 passengers an hour and it seemed they were all there when we were but it became apparent that they were not capable of handling 2 people an hour.
It was total mayhem in a room no bigger than a lounge in a house, we took a French couple and a couple from England under our wing and helped them through as they were struggling too and thought we were experts, we didn't tell them we were making it up as we went along!!!!
Customs were checking bags but if you slipped them 100 Rs they didn't bother which we found very scary. After a 1 hour delay we boarded our flight and sunk into our Business Class seats for the flight to Kathmandu. Although the flight was short we relished every moment in our big seats and loved it.
We cleared immigration in Kathmandu very quickly then took a cab to the Thamel area where we were booked in for the next 4 nights. Had a quick look around this afternoon and got good views from a rooftop restaurant in Thamel before crashing out back at the hostel. We have booked our Mt Everest flight for March 1st which we cannot wait for will be in touch tomorrow after our hike to the Monkey Temple.
Lots of Love
M & M
