Selamat Detang

Today has been one of those weird frustating days that you get now and again whilst travelling. The guy at the hotel said that the Snake Temple was under renovation so might not be that good to visit but we opted to try anyway.

We managed to mail off a few postcards without a hitch and then it went wrong from there on in!!!

After waiting 90 minutes for the bus to arrive we were just about to give up when a rickety old bus arrived and said it went to the temple, so on we got asking the driver to tell us when we needed to get off. An hour into the journey we still had not had the nod then all of a sudden he turned around and said he had forgotten to tell us and we had gone too far!!!! If we got off the bus we could catch one at the other side of the road.

By this time it was 12.30 and we did not know quite what to do but got off the bus and waited and waited for a bus to come in the other direction which it eventually did but by then we realised that we should have taken notice of the hotel guy and not bothered!!!!

Took another rickety bus into town which took another 90 minutes as the driver seemed to be dropping off all his family!!! By the time we had got back to town we were exhausted and beaten for the day but we have learnt some thing today.

a) It costs more to travel across the island by bus (30p) than it does to send a postcard to England (7p)!!!!!

b) Always listen to the advice of locals and save yourself a pointless bus journey!!!

We have had a good evening though we met up with Matt and Josie who we met in Melacca and had a meal with them. It was nice to catch up and see them.

I will hopefully be posting a blog from Thailand in the next few days providing we get over the border tomorrow and we have understood the visa waiver scheme otherwise we will be in Malaysia for a few more days!!!!
