Our Travels
We left Koh Pha-Ngan on 9th Sept to make our way to Koh Tao. The sun was blazing once again and the boat was crowded with everyone going to this island to do a PADI scuba diving course and become a qualified diver. We were pestered by lots of different companies, but chose the cheapest and most cheerful one which cost us 9000 Baht ( 130 pounds) for the course and four days accommodation!!
When we arrived at our accommodation it was spot on, again within a 10 minute walking distance to a beautiful beach and the rooms were luxury, well for our budget anyway. They included a king size double bed and a TV!! The studying started almost straight away as we were given books on diving and had to watch a video.
The next day it began, we were given our gear and were told the ins and outs. As we got in the water and did some breathing skills Mar felt a little uncomfortable, the whole taking off the mask and swapping regulators made her feel uneasy which was a shame because she enjoyed the dive on the way back to the boat, we saw lots of different kinds of fish and coral. After we got back Mar decided not to carry on the course, and instead go out with the group snorkeling while the others went diving. Everyone's a winner and Mar didn't have to pay the full whack for the course. Meanwhile Paul became a pro and passed his course and is now a qualified diver, wahoo!!!
Koh Tao is a lovely island, very green and has only been inhabited for about 20 years and was discovered by backpackers. We managed to get a Thai massage which was amazing, it was also quite funny as well as Paul almost got beaten up by a little old Thai lady, smacking his back etc!!! On our last night in Koh Tao we met up with the two girls we met back on Koh Pha-Ngan - Fi and Katie. They had bought us a dvd of the Full Moon Party which we are on apparently - haven't had a chance to see it yet tho!! They left that night to go to a different island, me and Paul met another couple from Australia and went on to a club with them. We were drunk again on the famous Samsung whisky buckets and we know, it's no excuse but we found ourselves dancing to R'n B ( funky house is rare on this island)!
The next day we were feeling awful but had to pack our things together to make our way to our next stop Koh Sumui. We arrived at the port about 2 hours early, Paul decided at 2.30 (our boat was at 3!) that he needed the toilet so disappeared off through the crowds of people who were already waiting there. 3 o'clock came and everyone is called to board the boat, still no sign of Paul! By this time it's getting very worrying and you can imaging the stressed caused, after persuading the Thai man to wait a little longer Mar checked the toilets and the street, then totally oblivious Paul came wondering out of the shop with a carrier bag with shorts inside - he'd been shopping and didn't hear the boat's loud horn and all of the announcements - Mar wasn't happy! We ran for the boat and made our way to Koh Sumui!
Bye for now, lots of love Mar and Paul (PADI qualified!) xxxxxxxxxxxxx
P.S Thanks for everyone's messages so far, it's good to hear from everyone, stay in touch!! xxxxxxxxxx
