After spending 2 nites in Cape Tribulation in the rain forest we were back in Cairns and met up with Kenney and went out for a few to catch up. We booked our trip to the Whitsundays while we were there too and managed to get a free nite accomodation for some reason..
We travelled down to Airlie Beach which is a place that a lot of backpackers have told us about and said how fun and great the place was and it is just that, except it's a lot smaller than I expected. The package we bought was for 2nites free accomodation in Airlie Beach, 2nites and 3 days sailing around the Whitsundays, and also 2 nites in Hervey Bay and 3 Days on Fraiser Island which is furthur south and just above Brisbane. We paid $350each which is quite good. We stayed in our hostel for 2 nites before then headed off to sail around and at the start it all seemed to be amazing - we had the best people on our boat ( half of them were Irish!) and everyone was well up for having a party.. The first day they told us we weren't doing anything but sailing so we all got wasted and had a laugh, then at 7pm they dropped us off at an island and told us we had to build our own 10 man tents to sleep in as this is where we would be for the next 2 nites.. Not an easy task when everyone was so drunk! We thought we'd done it but it was s*** and as we were off out the next day we were told we couldn't go to Whitehaven Beach (basically the beach that you see on all postcards for the whitsundays! the main reason we were on the boat!) because the wind was too strong. Fair enough, can't be helped so we went to another island but it was pants - I did a Scuba Dive but there was no coral or anything so we saw pretty much nothing and only went to 5m deep! On the way back the waves were massive and everyone was all over the place. Lunch was a rice salad and the rice wasn't cooked properly, then dinner we ate at about 7pm and was a childs portion of pasta for 41 people on the boat! There actually wasn't enough food for everyone to be full, it was a Joke. When we got back 2 tents had been ripped down with the wind and rain and wet sleeping bags for all! so 41 people had to sleep in three 10 man tents.. lol. That nite everyone was really pissed off so we drank the booze and tried to have as much fun as we could. Not one crew member stayed on the island with us either, so if something had hapened to one of us on the island there was no way of getting their attention as they were all asleep on the boat!! The list goes on... It went ok to start with but turned out to be a joke and everyone complained after and we've now got vouchers for a free identical trip with them. BRILLIANT. I'm thinking of just selling it to someone who wants to go and make some money back. So all in all, not the best experience .
Last nite when we were back at the hostel everyone from the boat had a few drinks and it ended in about 10 of us going back to one of the rooms to have a few take-outs... Myself and Martina were guna go to Hervey Bay last nite on the Greyhound but ended up changing it and were leaving tonite instead. We stayed in with 3 English girls that were on the boat last nite cus we hadn't even paid to stay another nite. Woopsy! These two Italian lads we met on the boat were there too and were smoking weed through a POTATO, cus they had no rizla's! very funny to watch.. HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN THAT BEFORE BY THE WAY.!?
Martina has gone on another boat trip today with the 3 english birds cus they wana actually see WHITEHAVEN BEACH for all it's glory - only cost $80 but I didn't really feel like it to be honest and I'm trying to save some money.. but i'll be well jealous if it's amazing. lol.
we'll let you know how it goes (hopefully better than the previous boat trip)...
