We visited Halong Bay, which means 'where the dragon decends into the sea', as legend has it a dragon who lived in the mountains came down to the coast and its tail gouged out valleys, which became filled with water, leaving only the high points of the land visible!
We boarded our Chinese Junk boat and headed out to sail around the bay, having lunch along the way, which was amazing. All of the meals we had on board had course after course of fresh seafood; huge shrimps, crabs, clams, squid, fish, in every form imaginable - we didn't go hungry let's put it that way!
We visited the caves, which were huge and lit with coloured lights. We then took a small boat into a lagoon, which we accessed through a small hole in the rocks, it was really calm and peaceful, all you could hear were the birds echoing. We then anchored up for the night and ate a huge dinner..of more seafood! The whole crabs were quite tricky, but very tasty; we had to crack them with a garlic press which was surprisingly effective and good fun!
The next day, after a really good nights sleep, we headed to one of the tall stone islands to get a view from the top. Part was paved, but then it was a gravelly trail, but we managed to get to the top with only a few near misses! The view was great, if a little cloudy!
We had a really nice relaxing couple of days and met some really great people. It was a great way to end our trip of Asia.
