I can't believe I've finished my last Tour in Australia. The imagination that I have to leave the country tomorrow after 2 years seems still a little bit unreal. The last couple of days I enjoyed the wonders of the West Coast from Perth up to Exmouth. We had - again - an early start. We had a full bus of 25 people… After a few hrs driving we reached the Nambung NP to explore the famous limestone formations of the Pinnacles. We continued our journey northwards along coastal roads to Geraldton where we had the opportunity to do some sandboarding down these huge slopes. We had to sign a legal disclaimer cause the activity involved risk to get injured. Most of us were brave enough…The next day we drove to Kalbarri NP where we began the day with a bushwalk. We took time to view Natures Window, the Loop and we discovered the wonders of the Z-Bend Gorge. At Z-Bend Gorge it was an exhilarating 150m descent into the heart of the Gorge. After lunch it was time to make our way towards Monkey Mia, stopping at Shell Beach, Denham (the most westerly town in Australia) and then onto Shark Bay World Heritage Area for our overnight stop.Early in the morning of day 3 we went to the beach for the arrival of the enchanting wild dolphins and watched the dolphin feeding. To be honest, I expected more… Firstly it was freezing cold in the water and the introduction speech, which took ages, was just boring after a while. Also there were just 2 dolphins, each of them just got 1fish and then everything was over. It was a little disappointing to get up so early, because later when we had the chance to do a sailing tour or just relax on the beach, we noticed that there were more feeding sessions with even more dolphins… In the afternoon we left Monkey Mia to head towards Carnarvon. We stopped for a well earned Ice chocolate banana on a stick before we finished the day by driving off the highway and out to Coral Bay where we stayed overnight. The next day in Coral Bay was a day off to explore the wonders of the Ningaloo Reef, the best fringing coral reef in the world. We had the opportunity to go snorkelling; cruise on the glass bottom boat; take a quad bike tour or even a joy flight over the reef. Six of us did the kayak tour with snorkelling included. It was amazing; I think it was even better than the Great Barrier Reef… The 30mins kayaking out to corals was exhausting, but it was worth it. We took amazing underwater pictures with the sea turtles and all the fish around us. Late in the afternoon it was time for the short drive into Exmouth, our final destination for this trip. We also went to Vlahming Head Lighthouse to watch the breathtaking sunset. On our day off in Exmouth we head out into the magnificent Cape Range NP, making our way towards the secluded beaches of the Ningaloo Reef. First we stopped for a quick look at Sandy Bay before heading to Turquoise Bay where we had another chance to go snorkelling with a huge variety of soft corals and marine life. Most of us got very burned lying on the beach the whole day… By the time we started driving back to our accommodation it already became dark. It was very difficult to see all the thousand kangaroos sitting next to road. Seriously, I've never seen so many roos in my life! One kangaroo which our guide saw next to the road got hit by a car but was still alive. She had no chance than killing the little kangaroo by breaking his neck. Everyone on the bus was really sad. When we drove a little further there were a few roos on the side of the road. When Tammy our guide started to slow down, the roos started jumping across the road and unfortunately we ran over one of them. We couldn't believe what happened. But when we had a look, the kangaroo was gone - probably hopped away… That night we got back to our hostel very late and had dinner around 11pm!
The next day we started our return journey to Perth stopping overnight at a farmstay. On our last day we made our way to the Principality of Hutt River Province, an Independent Sovereign state, to meet H.R.H. Prince Leonard. We also got a unique visa stamp! Back on the road we were driving south to Greenough Wildlife Park - home of a python breeding center - to meet the local snakes and kangaroos. In the evening around 7pm we arrived back in Perth and had to say good bye to each other. Well, we all meet again on facebook
