Ok, after 6 horrible hot days in the AUS Outback we finally got to Alice Spring - still can't believe it. We really have a fantastic group; have lots of fun and just a great time.
I think I might start from the beginning of the Tour, cause the last Blog wasn't very helpful to get into… Just Injuries
Well, basically it is a 14 day Tour from Darwin to Adelaide. They picked us up quite early in the morning from our Hostel in Darwin last Sunday. Everyone fell asleep straight away after a few minutes driving. Our fist stop was a massive field of Termite mounds. They are made of s*** and Spit. I've never seen so many. AUS really must have a lot of s***. After a while looking around and getting sweaty we continued our journey to the waterfalls of Lichtfield National Park, followed by a spectacular Mary River Wetland Cruise. Birds aren't the only wildlife around here. We were very lucky to get the chance to watch some awesome fights between crocodiles. Later that afternoon we arrived at our campside. I didn't feel very good, thinking about all the creatures crawling over me at night… That night I didn't sleep at all. I was attacked by ants, bad bugs and mozzis. I was happy when we started our Tour again at 6am. I survived a camping night in the AUS Outback, but there were still 5 to go. I was thinking of cancelling the rest of the Tour, because I really couldn't stand anymore bites from bad bugs, mozzis, ants etc. And those flies everywhere just drove me crazy!
The next stop was Barramundi Gorge, where we hiked half hour over rocks till we got to the plung pools. We stayed around 2 hours there, cause our guide didn't show up again after he and a few others from our group jumped into the pools and disappeared by discovering the nearby waterfalls… The rest of the group was attacked to death by millions of flies and the heat really was unbearable! The rest of the day we spent at Ubirr and discovered ancient Aboriginal rock art. At sunset we climbed the rocky lookout. The views over the Nardab floodplain were just amazing and we had a breathtaking sunset. At night at our Camp we had a good laugh in the pool with a glass of beer/wine. On the third day we got ready for some 4WD action to Twin Falls, followed by Jim Jim Falls. That was basically it what we did for the day. The hikes to the Falls were really exhausting and some of us stayed behind, cause it was also kind of dangerous sometimes. Our guide didn't make it easy because he was just running away and couldn't wait for the others who weren't that fast! On our way back to Darwin everyone was very tired and happy to sleep the next night in a hostel and not between ants and other Outback animals!
We spent the night in Darwin in a Karaoke bar. Everyone got drunk very quickly and it was even harder to get up the next morning to drive to Katherine Gorge where we stayed the whole afternoon, cruising or canoeing around. From Katherine Gorge we continued driving south to Tennant Creek. We first stopped at Mataranka, a sparkling thermal pool surrounded by lush tropical forest. After a nice refreshing swim we drove to the iconic Daly Waters outback hotel, the NT's oldest pub. It was really funny to see what they had inside on their walls, just everywhere. They must have collected underwear, pictures, beer bottles, flip flop from Travellers for years… Everything you can imagine you could find there - also Australia's most remote Traffic Light
A few minutes driving we got to Australia's first international airport. After lunch we started our 4hrs drive south to Tennant Creek - hundreds of km's straight. Poor Tour Guide… When we arrived at Juno Horse Farm, Justin our Guide went straight to bed. The nights I spent sleeping in campsites got better and better. At that stage I was glad I didn't cancel the Tour. First thing the next morning we discovered Devils Marbles, rocks balancing on each other! We could take fabulous photos, posing on different rocks, ready to become a facebook profile picture :D Next stop was Barrow Creek, home for Australia's killer scene, also to the historic Telegraph Station. The heat around here was awful, as if you would burn alive. Every step on the hot sand was pain, because your shoes and the ground started to coalesce. The temperature reached at least something around 43°C
When we arrived in Alice Springs yesterday afternoon the sky was full of clouds and it was very windy - a gift of heaven! Late that night when we walked back from a bar in which we had dinner and a few drinks, it started to rain, we couldn't believe it!
Today the sky didn't look different than yesterday, but it was much cooler. The others have gone to a 4WD Tour around the area with our guide; I was just staying in my comfortable bed, doing nothing! I booked a hot Air Ballooning Tour tomorrow morning, they'll pick me up at 3:40am - NIGHTMARE, but worth it I think… Well, and Monday morning we start our last 6days down to Adelaide which is probably the next time for me to write a Blog.
Ok, now I'm just waiting for the others to come, maybe we'll go out somewhere for dinner, cause it's Rob's Birthday, which reminds me to thank everyone writing me a message on my Birthday last week. Thank you all very much!!!
