Day 3 - Lake Bled
So the bride and grooms big day has arrived, we head to meet Carole (who has very kindly brought over all our wedding attire) and get ready for the days events.
The temperature is now pushing 32 degrees and although i'd usually be more than happy with this im not relishing doing it in a suit! Anyways after we're all ready we head round to meet the groom in his hotel bar. Ciaran is looking very dapper in his kilt and bright white shirt which he's managed to keep clean!
After a few swift beers and a couple of pictures we're off round to the registry office. Alasdair is sent inside to wait patiently (nervously) and Sharon arrives on a horse and carriage with her dad and Amber the flower girl. As they pull up Rhonas animal loving side comes out and she says "ooh look at the horse!" I've been given the officail title of cameraman for the day so i capture everything on film.
After much picture taking and tears from the ladies we're off inside closely followed by the bride.
Alasdair looks quite nervous now despite saying he's fine however by the time Sharon gets to the front they both look very happy!
The 2 women conducting the ceremony read out the laws/vows in Slovene which are then translated back into English by our translator. Unfortunately there's no aircon in the room and the windows are shut so everbody feels like they're in a sauna (I didn't envy Sharon in that big dress) After many vows, "i do's" swapping of the rings and witness signings we're told to head outside where theres a "surprise" waiting for us.
We head out and are greeted by a guy dressed as some kind of Slovenian knight wielding a massive sword! He then pulls out a bottle of fizz and slices the cork off (impressive) Next he invites the newly weds up to give it a go and they're both successful. With the sweat pouring off everybody we all can't wait to get our hands on the glass of bubbly and everybody is very quickly onto their 2nd/3rd glass.
Mick Moraig Rho and myself all head round to a bar to grab a couple of swift bottles as next up is the 30 minute boat ride to island with the massive church on it. We all pile onto a row boat and are paddled across thankful for the shade, the breeze and the cool refreshing beer soon everybody is looking human again! as we pull up we realise we still have the 99 steps to walk up and the sun isn't getting any cooler, we all climb to the top but it wasn't as bad as we were expecting (maybe the beer took the edge off it) The smartest business man in the world must be from round here as at the top of the steps next to the church there's a bar (everybody has never been so excited to see a simple bar before) however before we get more beer we head into the church for bell ringing and picture taking. A boat load of about 20-30 tourists turn up and start taking our pictures, everbody is a local celeb for 5 minutes hoever the clear favourite is Ciaran in his little kilt which everybody loved.
After more pics we sink a quick beer and the weather is changing for the worse getting windy and looking like it's going to rain so we head back to mainland on the boat and into the reception to get stuck in to some food and wine. The food is nice although we all ate too much bread then the toasts and the newly weds 1st dance (I now have a massive right arm from holding the video camera all day and Rhona is an expert with a camera however when i flicked back through the pics i found as many of the horse as i did any part of the wedding!) after much food, drink and dancing everybody is shattered so we arrange for a bottle of bubbly to be sent upto the honeymoon suite and head out to a local bar for a quick nightcap before heading home and collapsing in bed.
Overall a good day everybody enjoyed it and Alasdair and Sharon both seemed very happy which is what really matters.
Congrats!
