Got up early and before heading off decided to grab a coffee from Starbucks which is in the neighbouring Virgin River Casino. Walked into the casino at about 8.30 am and there were at least one hundred people in there playing the pokies or on the tables. This is dedication I suppose? I was a bit disappointed with the Monument Valley experience yesterday but today was a whole different ballgame. We planned to drive from Page, Arizona to St George, Utah via Zion National Park but this did not go exactly as planned. As we left Page we got a fantastic view of Lake Powell and we now understand why Page motels get booked out. b***** all sleep from the previous night in the fantastic motel (NOT). Off to Monument Valley about 200k down the track today. Very interesting drive through Navajo Indian Tribal Lands, there is a lot of poverty out there. Some parts of the drive I could have been back in WA around Meekatharra or Cue. Monument Valley stands out from miles out, very imposing and massive. Paid our fee to enter and was excited to see the cliffs and Mesa's and also a bit disappointed...

Up early to head out to Mesa Verde National Park. It is only about 20km from town and it is still quite cold (about 13C) . There is a museum at the entrance which has a lot of exhibits from digs around Mesa Verde Apparently when these people left in 1200 or 1300 they left everything behind as they had no horses etc so there was heaps of pottery footware, bits of clothing and such.
