I finally arrived to Mexico on 29th of Dec and I was really tired after spending past two nights in airport. Later during the first evening I went out for a walk and had my first real Mexican tacos. They were so tasty and cheap that I could just smile. I spend two nights in Mexico City and on my second day I went to a walking tour. Mexico City is so huge that you could easily spend months trying to explore it and then I realized that I have keep focused. I just have one month and so many places to visit so I have to hit the road.
I took a bus from Mexico City to Oaxaca On New Years Eve and I arrived there around 6pm. At 6:30 I was already drinking tequila with my new friends from the hostel. Later we went to eat dinner to local market and after that we continued drinking in our hostel. We went to see fireworks to the big square and there were tons of people. Locals (and some of us) went crazy because of fireworks. We had lots of fun and we arrived back to hostel after 4am.
New Year's Day was a lazy one and I just explored the old Colonial city of Oaxaca and took it easy. I was mostly hanging around with Brad (NYC) and Jonas (Germany). On evening we went to eat tasty tacos and had some beers. In Oaxaca I went also to see Maya ruins and they were massive. I took a night bus from Oaxaca to San Cristobal on 2nd of Jan.
I arrived to San Cristobal on 3rd of Jan at 7am. I storage my back bag to the bus station and went to see the city. San Cristobal is also an old colorful Colonial city what is famous for Zapatistas who occupied San Cristobal on 1st of Jan 1994 for protesting the first day by Nafta (North American Free Trade Agreement). I took a bus to Palenque at 1pm and arrived to Palenque around 7pm. I spend one night in Palenque and took a bus at 6am to Flores, Guatemala and arrived there after 5pm.
My first days have been quite hectic and lots of traveling but I have been kind of in a hurry to see the coast. I'm staying in Flores for two nights and I'm going to see the mother of all Maya ruins in Tikal, north of Flores. Maya ruins in Tikal are deep in the jungle and they should be something special. On 6th of Jan I will take a bus to Belize City and finally can see the Caribbean Sea…
