A fearful nights sleep meant an early rise. Got in a cheeky skype with Astrid and phonecall to Rushna which was lovely and needed. We then drove up to Tombstone - home of tge OK Corral. They've redonw the town highstreet so it looks like an authentic western town with saloons, horse and wagons ans cowboys a plenty. In fact it was hard to tell who was dresed up in character and who was just rocking their normal attire. We then watched a recreation/play of the events leading up to and during the OK corral shoot out. We liked this a lot, Donna had her eye on Doc Holiday, a rogue who happened go to be on the 'good guys' side by chance.
We then went for a drink of some bourbon in the saloon and were allowed behind the bar and on top of the piano for some pictures - it's great how far a British accent can get you. We decided if we'd been around at the time I'd have made a great saloon owner/madame and Donna would have been a hustler on the run.
On the ay out we stopped off at bootstrap cemetary, amazing headstones for some of the cowboys!! We then went to Bisbee, a last minute decision that we wished we'd stayed over at. An old mining town in a valley with supposedly the most haunted hotel in the states. The town itself gad a hippy feel to it, every bar had live music going on. We settled for dinner in a Mexican where I had a massive margarita to wash my chimichunga down with. Unfortunately there was nothing within our budget that allowed us to stay so we travelled on to El Passo for the night. This meant driving through skme serious cow land. The smell was enough to make you gag, and I grew up in the countryside, Donna took it even worse! Thankfully once in the city the smell dissipated. We stayed in a slightly kitsch motel, checked in by an old guy who was so dumbstruck that we were both born on June 30th he got his own ID out to show me. Unfortunately no discount was given for this 1 in 365 chance miracle.
