Hello all!
will keep in brief and attempt to back track to update you all!
After leaving Windehock we went to one of the most amazing places we have ever bean - Etosha National Park. The campsite and hotel there is by a flood lit wateringhole. You are literally metres from all the animals that come in to drink. There is a small stone wall around the viewing benches (the wall is big enough to deter animals from wandering in but a few years ago a lion climbed over and ate a man who fell asleep there!). Anyway, we sat with our beers and blankets and watched well into the night as heards of elephants, zebras, giraffes, rhinos and even a lion came into drink. A truly amazing experience.
From here we carried on into the desert out into the middle of nowhere, to a place called Spitzkoppe; A rocky outcrop quite similar to Ayres Rock in Oz. Adam climbed to the top and Mair walked around instead! It was boiling here; really uncomfortable. A strange night sleep as we could hear the wild cats (caracel).
We then headed from 40 degrees to 12 as we headed to the coast to Swakopmund. A strange but cute place that was strangely similar to the south coast of England! Here we wandered around in all the clothing we owned and ate magnificant sea food at places aptly named 'The Tug' and 'The Lighthouse'. It was here we watched a movie being filmed. they blew up the local cafe!!
After a few days in the cool it was back into the desert, the temp rising back to the top 30s within hours. We were now in Sesriem, home of the world famous dunes. The location for many films including 'The Cell' starring JLo. We climbed dune 45 to watch the sunrise from the top and then had a walking tour from a local guide who was like the Steve Irwin of the desert world!!
Our last stop in Namibia was Fish River Canyon. A vast drop in the desert. It was an amazing view down into this dangerous canyon. As the sunset we had cheese and wine with everyone on our tour. Really lovely.
