We had a crazy driver called Clive who got very annoyed when some people put their bags in the wrong compartment and he jumped around dancing moaning to everyone. I met back up with Anki and Leonard. I ended up sitting next to Francesa who was on my bus down from Port Douglas and who I would end up sharing a room in Magnetic Island. When I got to Absolute in Mission beach I checked in to my room and then went on a 9km walk through a rainforest and then on the road. I was being a bit adventurous as I was tired but I really wanted to do some good exercise. It was a cool walk across dodgy bridges and we spotted a massive spider- yuck!!! When I say we there were about 7 of us doing it. I really wanted to see a cassowary which is a rare bird over here but no such luck. That took about 2 hours but then it took an hour on the road which was long and painful with the sun beating down and just endless road. Leonard, Anki and I got back and popped to Woolworths where we picked up some food for fajitas. That was delicious and it was so good after eating boring bland food for the previous 5 days. It gets hard being inventive when you are only cooking for yourself and on a budget. The next day I caught the 10am bus to Townsville and then on a ferry to Magnetic Island. After getting on a bus packed with people heading for Base we turned up at the party spot. I chilled by the pool for a bit and met the 2 Irish Lauras then went to get ready. This was when I realised I was in the same room as Francesca my Italian buddy from the bus. We headed out for our free cocktail and dinner. I had a cheese burger and chips which was delicious and I really really enjoyed it :) We had an excellent night, a few to many cocktails and I met back up with Hannah from Cairns and her friends and also the Georgies were there. We danced on the tables and just had a good laugh together. There were some Ozzies over there as it was a Saturday and they were clealy on the pull for any backpacker they could get their hands on. The bar shut at 12 which was really early and then we headed to bed as there was no alcohol and nothing else we could do.
On the Sunday Francesca and I got our free breakfast, toast, bacon and eggs and then sunbathed by the pool all day. It was not hot hot which was good as it would have been unbearable. We had these big blue comfty beds which were lush and it just looked out to the beach and sea. It was a lazy and cool day..when we heaed back to the room we met our new room mates, Orla, Evia and Gillian from Limerick. We joined them and some other girls later on and partied the night away in the bar. It was a good laugh.
On Monday afternoon I got the early boat back to land and then got the 12pm bus to Airlie beach. I stayed in the Whitsunday Terraces which were lovely and overlooked the marina. It was not a hostel but a clean and neat apartment with our own kitchen.. Such LUXUARY!! I headed off to Coles and did some shopping for the week and then relaxed for the evening. I really cannot party every night anymore.. age is against me :) My two roomies were Laura and Lauren from Southampton who were really nice and there for the night. They headed out to meet some of their friends from their boat tour for drinks. I did some washing and thought I would get a good sleep but I could not fall asleep as there were some serious rain happening and I think prehaps I am getting more used to following asleep with others in the room..
The next day I chilled in the apartment and watched some films on tv as there was rain on and off all day which was a real shame. I did take a short walk to the lagoon to take a look around again. Later that night Julie joined my room quite late she was from Holland. I walked her to the shops and she cut her toe on the way down so she was not a happy bunny. The next morning I got up as check out was 10am and headed to the lagoon to meet Christine my friend and room buddy from Mission Beach. She said a girl was joining us and it turned out to be Giselle from my room in Cairns... Small small world or at least coast :) We hungout for the day and it was a long old day.. 14 hours and it pissed down all day so it was not fun AT ALL. The girls did have pedicures and I read gossip magazines which was entertaining seeing as I am completely out of the showbiz world at the moment. We just pottered about and went to the make your own bracelet shop and we also went along for a digeridoo lesson. I watched as everyone tried to give it a whirl, funny :) We eventually got on the bus around midnight and it took 10 hours to get to Agnes Water..
