Mel's Overseas Trip
Hi All,
Yesterday we went to the Cenotes in Merida and it was quite the adventure. First of all we had a collectivo driver take us to the township (crazy driver!!!) and then we caught a horse and cart drawn on old railway tracks to the three different cenotes.
We called our horse Seabiscuit as it was very fast and twice around the corners he went so far he pulled our cart off the tracks.
The cenotes in Mexico are made from the limestone ground that allows the rain to sink through and create underground caves and waterholes. The water is crystal clear, very deep and cool. To get down to the bottom of the cenote we had to climb through a manhole down a ladder into the darkness( a little scary), but once you were down there it was amazing. We were jumping off a 10m platform into the water, it was great fun.
We then tried to go for a sight seeing tour of the town of Merida but we got caught in Monsoon rains, that turned the streets into rivers.
Today we caught a bus all day to the town of Palenque and we are staying in huts in the jungle, it is very hot and humid.
Tommorrow we are going to the Palenque Ruins with a local guide and seeing the local waterfalls.
Slowly learning more and more Spanish along the way.
Take Care
Love
