Macklen's Euro Trip
Yo, yo, yo...We arrived in Prague last afternoon after about a 5 hour train ride in the beautiful landscape of rivers, mountains, old towns in the hills, and lots of milk cows and sheep. It was the best ride we've been on the whole trip..except for the intimidating/scary border patrol that come by as we cross the border and check for you passport and train ticket with their stiff uniforms and impressive patches/badges.
We made our way to the main train station to reserve our next train tickets...you have to reserve them so you're not stuck in smoking trains or completely without a seat...seats aren't actually guaranteed!!! crazy enough! they aren't too friendly in train stations either...i think they deal with cranky people all day...or maybe they just need some sunshine...it's been rainy every place we've been!
Our hostel in pretty easy to get to, and in Prague you can basically walk everywhere...I would recommend it, because it's so beautiful! The city is made up of various town squares that have shops, sights, old clock towers, and churches. The picture I have posted is of the Astronomical clock tower (a cuckoo clock). Every hour it chimes and out pop the 12 apostles...a couple of skeletons and other figures move their heads..etc. It's pretty funny.
Our hostel is in an old building. It has free breakfast and internet (bonus! bonus!). The other people in our room are kind of abnoxiuos...they go out late every night and come back at 4:30am. Last night they turned the lights on at 4:30am...not cool.. they must have been wasted. anyways...it's part of the deal...it's cheap...that's a plus!
Today we went to the old castle on top of the hill in Prague. It was beautiful. We saw the catacombs where they hold about 10 tombs of a king, and his wives, and other family members. It was pretty cool! They also had the coffin of St. John. I'm not really sure who he is, but they said it was the largest piece of silver in all of Czech. The whole statue and coffin was silver. Beautiful!
We walked the streets looking in shops, etc. And now we are getting ready to go out again for dinner and a bit of walking.
Will write more later! Love you all!!!!! -mackie.
