Chris n' Mel in Thailand
Hi All
First entry to the Journal so will give you a quick update on what we have been doing and how we got here.... After a monumental flight here via the worlds hottest place (Doha) we arrived in Bangkok. Melanie wasnt happy as she had just got into Battleship on the Plane, and first thing she said when we landed was "I cant wait till we fly back, so I can play again" needless to say she was reprimanded! So we got a Cab to Khao San road and not knowing where that was I think we were taken on a whirlwind tour of Bangkok by night, till eventually we arrived at the neon mecca that was our destination. Found our accomodatioon and checked in relatively painlessly, dumped the bags and what to do, being us we went for a beer or two...... Turned into a bit of a bender and by the time we went to bed we were quite drunk....Some awesome bars of which my favourite was a reggae pub which was in a back alley and blared out the obligatory Bob Marley all night long till we were kicked out, whats with the closing time??? shouldnt they be open all night. Probably a good thing as we had been up for about 40 hours and had had around 25/30 singhas including the many we had drinking with Leigh before we even got to the Airport... Thanks buddy.
So day 2 started off a bit late and after a debate on what to do we decided that we should go shopping, started off a little slow but gradually picked up speed untill we were both in a shopping frenzy. Luckily we had a few beers too which kept us from buying too much. Its hard though when almost everything can be bought for less than 2 pounds. That night we were a bit tired and we were sitting on the side of the road with yet another beer when we heard some live music, Decided to give it a go and it was awesome . There were two singers on - a girl who we only saw sing one song.. a cracking version of Zombie by the Cranberries and then this Thai guy came on and played for a couple of hours. He was brill and very friendly to us though not really sure what he was saying all the time spent most of the time smiling and nodding to everything he said. In the end we were the only "farang" in the bar. After his set we went to grab some grub from the street, followed by another beer and then home to bed.
Now we are off to visit some Temples and I think we are going to a Thai Boxing match tonight.
Hope everyone is well and we will put some pics on soon
PS I'm soo happy here - the meals have been amazing and everything on the menu starts with spicy... (Mel)
