Chris n' Mel in Thailand
So we got up at the crack of dawn already packed and raring to go, but as we were about to leave i felt an unwelcome grumble in the pit of my stomach and without going into detail asked Mel if she would kindly see if we could re-arrange our travel and stay in Koh Phi Phi for one more night.... the thought of travelling all day feeling like I did did not appeal, luckily we could change our tickets.. problem solved pheuw!
The day was as you can imagine a quiet one, Mel went out and got us some blag DVDs and we ending up watching my super ex girlfriend (pretty good) and Miami Vice (Fell asleep half way through so dont know)
Then as I was feeling a bit better, we toddled off for a wander and a bit of grub, dry toast for me though - boo! Didnt do too much for the rest of the day except sit on the beach and read my book while Mel went shopping... again! I think she may need an extra bag just for the hundreds of new clothes she will be coming back with.
Chilled out in the evening and went to bed early so we would be ok to go to Koh Phangnan tomorrow.
Woke up and got on the 9am ferry to Krabi. it was another glorious day so after we realised that the ferry journey wasnt going to be as rough as the way here we went and sat in the sun for the remainder of the journey. Mel was especially pleased at this turn of events as I think she was expecting the worst... The next part of our journey was a 4 hour bus journey to Surat Thani.. nothing really to note except that we had a little Thai lad driving and he kinda looked like he was 10 years old and was sat at the wheel of his dads car, but thankfully not only could he drive the bus he was a little speed demon and threw the bus around like he was in a sports car.
We had a short break in Surat Thani before another bus came to pick us up to take us to Donsak where we would be boarding the ferry.. it was plush, well made up with the new coach, and when they put on Lord of the Rings i was v happy, put my feet up and kicked back for the 2 hour journey... Did wonder why they would put a 3 hour film on a 2 hour bus journey but hey, who cares!
Arrived at the port where it seemed everyones bags had been gone through, and weirdly someone had had a mp3 player that wasnt theirs put INTO their bag.. what was that all about?
Thankfully as both our bags resembled fort knox we were ok and got on the ferry with no worries.
The full journey, which we had originally been told would take 9 hours was now going into the 12-14 hour stage.. not really a problem as we were quite enjoying ourselves but as we didnt have any accomodation and didnt fancy wandering around with our bags at 10pm we gave in and booked ourselves into a bungalow on Ban Tai beach via a friendly thai dude on the boat. this done we celebrated the only way we know how... thats right, we had a beer... There was hardly anyone on the ferry so we went up to the top deck , plonked ourselves down and enjoyed the sunset, pretty soon that beer was finished and as it had gone down soo well we had another, and another, untill we had quite a collection, 3 very enjoyable hours later and a little giddy we got the free taxi with an irish couple to the bungalow we had booked earlier. It was only 5 min drive away and we got booked into the room (not quite on the beach, but close) We had a hammock, which pleased Mel immensly and the room was massive, no sheets on the bed though which was alittle disturbing, but hey we were in the middle of nowhere, what do you expect.
Went to the little reataurant where we ordered ourselves a meal and spoke to a young thai lad (the owners son we think) and he mentioned that there was a black moon party on a beach nearbye, Now I have heard of this party before and i imagine its a poor mans full moon, so as we were knackered from a long day we toddled of to bed, for what turned out to be a very warm and sticky night..
Got up the next day, checked out early so we could get to Haad Rin and sort ourselves some accomodation as this was where we would be spending the majority of our time whilst on this particular island.. It was really hot today and there wasnt a cloud in the sky so when we got knocked back from our first choice bungalow, we went and found somewhere i could cool down. Mel went off and 20 min later came back with some accomdation sorted... We stayed an Anon Bungalows next to the beach and the Cactus club which as it turned out wasnt a great idea, but im getting ahead of myself, we will come back to that. So our room was comedy, it had mirrors everywhere, literally the walls were mirrors, cool for checking out the tan, but otherwise a bit weird. It has to be said i did spend about 15min trying to position myself in such a way so i caould see multiple reflections of myself, sad I know but i think the sun and the alcohol are getting to me. Out of interest the most reflections of myself i got to was 14.
So we hit the beach and had our first full day chillin out .. the sea is much better here as you dont have to walk out about a mile before it gets deep, which is good when you get too hot and want a dip in the sea. Sunbathed all day broken up only by a stint in the shade for lunch (pizza again) and eventually we were both sunshined out and trundled the 20 yards home. Where utilising the comedy room we were able to acertain that the day in the sun had indeed been beneficial as our tans were now looking pretty damm good. We were both hungry by now and once we had done the usual aftersunning went out in search of some grub.. we wandered around for a while just to get a feel for the place, and unfortunately missed the sunset on the other beach by 10 min, but by this time we had apotted a mexican place called Bamboozle, so in we went, just in time as the heavens opened and it rained heavily, but only for 10 min then it just stopped, sweet!
We went out for a few beers and then moved onto buckets as we were tired, and needed a pickup, which they did.. played some pool whilst necking some long island ice tea and watched the Man Utd v Charlton game repeated as i hadnt seen it yet, just before the 3rd goal the power went off everywhere, and i do mean everywhere, but it seems like this is a reglar occurance as we were soon drinking our long island ice teas by candle light - how romantic! as we had already set up the pool table we decided to play on anyway and soon the lights came back on, but the footie had finished and they were now playing baseball - boring!
Then we went to the beach where it was heaving with people and shared one last bucket whilst watcing the fire dancers and drinking in the ambiance of the place.. Got back to our room and fell asleep, well at least thats what i did, Mel couldnt sleep due to the fact that our room was only 20/30 yards from the blaring music it was like having a stereo in your room with the volume turned up... this continued till 5:30am when that noise was replaced with the sounds of the cleaners tidying the beach and hurtling the bottles of beer from the previous nights drinking into giant bottle bins close by.. maybe it was time to leave and find some new accomodation further from the beach.. after a bit of a wander we found some very nice bungalows for the princley sum of 3 pounds each.
Gonna chill out today as we are both a bit delicate and will prob go exploring tomorrow as we have heard there are some very cool waterfalls around the island..
PS The weather is amazing....again
