We travelled North/South of Antigua to Rio Dulce, and again not knowing what to expect. Arrived at Rio Dulce and we had to take a speed boat to our intented accomadation. Having travelled the States and Canada for the last 2 month, staying in accomadation of varying standard I was blown away with the accomadation we were to stay for just one night. After a 5 minutes speed boat journey we arrived at small island hosting beautiful cabins on the waterfront of lake Isobella. The accomadation seem a piece of heaven to me. Beautiful cabins on the waterfront, overlooking a magnificant lake, hosting tropical vegetation and best of all a great pool with a bar by the pool selling 2 for 1 on all drinks. So we spent the night relaxing by the pool sipping cocktails and watching the sunset over the lake, gettin¡ng to know each other. So all in all a great, relaxing night in a small piece of heaven.
The next day we took a boat trip down lake Isobella, the largest lake in Guatemala, taking in some of the most beautiful scenary imaginable along the 23 kilometre stretch of waterway, where people live in small cabins on the waterfront and children go to school via handmade canoes. We visited Livingston which is situated at the mouth of the Rio Dulce where it joins the Bay of Amatique and is inhabited by the Garifuna people. Its a small town with a real Caribbean flavour.
We then made our way back to accomadation to collected the luggage and make our way to Flores.
So far so good....
