So I awoke before sunrise to catch the 4.30am bus to Jaco to get a water taxi to other peninsular headed west to Montezuma. So I woke up at 4am and was quite smug in the fact that I had purposely organised all my stuff the night before so that I could grab my stuff from my locked quickly and quietly so not to wake my dorm mates up. However, it did not turn out to be such a quick, quiet get away as I had stupidly not only locked all my stuff away in the locker but also the locker key, which meant that I had to not only wake up the whole room up but also the hostal owner, who were all fast asleep and not happy to be woken up, inorder to break open my locker. So after breaking the locker and retrieving my stuff, with time running out I rushed to catch my bus. To my horror I discovered that the hostal 7ft wooden gates were locked and I could not be opened without the use of the keys the hostal had given me, but in my hast to catch the bus I had locked the keys in the dorm room and with only mins to spare to catch the bus and not wanting to annoy my dormates anymore by waking them up again, I threw my bag over the fence and volted the 7ft gate, nearly getting bitten on the arse by the hostels huge dog who assumed I was an intruder, which must of been exactly what it looked like. So I grabbed my stuff and legged it to the bus just it time to catch it as it was pulling away.
So after a shacky start, the day turned out well as the bus took me back to Jaco to catch the water taxi which is the fastest and easiest way to get to Monezuma, as the only other way was 7 hr journey via bus and ferry. So I took the easy option and got the water taxi which only took 1hr.
Arrived at Montezuma early and dropped my stuff at the seedy place I was staying, and walked around to see what Montezuma had to offer. Montezuma is a very small beach town, which has a really good feel about it as it is so small and compact and really laid back. It has three great waterfalls so I hiked up to them and spent the afternoon swimming in the natural pools which was so relaxing.
So after a bad start of the day, my day turned out well as I spent the afternoon relaxing in the waterfall and the evening I spent enjoying a great meal and a few beer on the beach front watching the sunset. So all in all I really liked Montezuma but felt that one day was enough time to see what it had to offer and I am intenting to head up the coast to a sleppy little beach town of Mal Pais as I hear it is a great place to relax and chill out.
Lets see what it has to offer....
