Napiers Travel Around The World in 50 Days
Hi everyone
Arrived in Queenstown yesterday 16/2/06 after our flight and cruise to the Millford Sound. Kinda got the itinery mixed up on my last postcard. I thought we flew there and sailed back but oh no we flew there and back in a six seater plane and cruised down the sounds. It was great. Flew over lots of glaciers there and while we were sailing down the sounds we saw lots of brown fur seals, just posing for the cameras what a sight! and we were very fortunate to see a minature crested penguin - this is apparently a rare sight in the sounds and at this time of year. The water falls were spectacular in fact the whole trip was excellent. I took lots pf photos - well Davey did as he was sitting in the front of the plane and we ran out of memory in the camera but we did get a lot of photos unfortuantely I took all the sticks into a camera shop to have them transfered onto a cd and they said one of the discs had a virus!! so I think I may have lost them all except the few I took on a 16mb stick. So not many photos to share with you.
Queenstown is lovely - Claire make sure Fraser inheirates his mum and dads house here it is lovely. arrived about 2pm only 1 hr from Wanaka and we had to take two nights separate accomodation. Last night we were at the top of the hill coming into town with great views over the Lake, had an early tea as we had booked a slot at one of the themed bars for 8pm. This was different, we were only allowed in for 30 mins entry included 1 cocktail and we had to get dressed in fur lined jackets, furry boots and thermal gloves - the name of the bar - Minus 5 - that was the temp inside. The chairs were blocks of ice, lots of ice sculptures and even the glasses were made of ice. When were getting togged out there was a crowd of scots who asked me to take a picture for then, I said to David that I reconized the woman - I thought she worked for the NHS, she asked where we were from and said she worked in Cupar three times a year and it clicked, she works with the Blood Donors, you should reconize her Kelly she gives the local aneasthetic!! We had a great laugh with them and they invited us to join them for dinner but we had eaten, they also knew Tom and Christine Henney, small world indeed. Earlier on there was a piper at the wharf and we dropped coins into his box, later he asked where we were from and as usual we say St Andrews its easier than Craigrothie, Oh he said my daughter lives in Ceres!! Rather than face the steep hill back to our hotel we got a taxi.
This morning we checked out and drove to the wharf - we had booked a cruise on Lake Wiatpuka - I think - onaboard TSS Earnslaw a 93 year old steam boat - it was very nice, didn't get of at Walters Peak because we hadn't booked the bbq but wished we had. Checked into our next hotel which is at the opposite end and up another hill then went for a paddle in the lake - crystal clear water. David is having his usual massage - if its not that its a sleep! while I update you. Tonight we are getting the gondola up to the top of Mt whatever! for a Haka which is a traditional maori concert and dinner, we're not going to get another chance to see this. Tomorrow were off to Dunieden NZs Edinburgh for one night before heading back to Christchurch for the last two nights. love to all Lynne & David xx
