Hampton Court Palace - the rose red brick Tudor palace, yes associated with King Henry VIII (and the many wife's). This baroque palace was first occupied in 1700.
Latest exhibition - The Secret of the Bedchambers (sorry, no juicy stories, can look at www.hrp.org.uk/royalbeds).
What I enjoyed, was that it wasn't as ostentatious and elaborate as the French or German, even the Russian.
This palace has been in the go for over 7 centuries and each powerful owner has changed it according to their demands/requirements. Surprise lay, no one has managed to wipe out any of their predecessor. It has always been valued for its rural setting and the prospect of hunting, been tolerated, even revered for us hotchpotch of building styles. Romantic appeal!
