Leaving Nga Trang we headed for the big smoke ... Ho Chi Min City/Saigon (Yes I am already aware my spelling is shocking in both languages !! ) a very delayed train ride yet again… that now really only seems to add to the mystery of being in Asia. Saigon like all big cities in the world was a big city ... but a nice one at that and one I would like to visit again sometime. The highlight for me by far was the Chu Chi tunnel's, situation just out the city, this is where the Vietnamese soldiers lived and attacked from during the 'Nam war'. Here I have learnt how incredible Vietnam's history is.. Given it is primarily war-based but still worthy enough I feel that everyone should read it or even better see it for themselves at least once before they die (even if it is just the lonely-planet version). Our trip to the tunnels were follow by an almost as worthy huge night on the town, it was Saturday night in Saigon... how could we not ??? My tour group has turned out to be a wicked bunch of people leading to many a great night on cheap Vietnamese beers and lots of banter. These side excursions' had left me in more ways than one whole heartedly ready for our home stay the next day and night in the Mekong Delta.. a beautiful island/river based area where we found ourselves immersed in Vietnamese country side.. Well ok Jungle... an alcohol free evening hanging (literally in hammocks) with each other chillen out ... what more could life be about ?? However the top highlight overall from the trip must have been the Vietnamese style boat ride with nam-style hats included ... a fantastic finish to a country i have a new-found admiration for ... Goodbye Nam.. Cambodia here we come ... !
