Crossing the border into South africa.. felt like coming home (funny enough!). It has been such a long time and yet it felt creepily familiar!! I loved Namibia but couldnt hide the exictement i felt to be back in SA (yes a tear or two to my eyes). We traveled down the west coast.. along past small afrikaans 'dorps' (towns) and places that we use to spend family summer holidays when i
was kid. A must do stop in a town called Sprinkbok.. the name says it all and then finally all the way south to Stellenbosch. Stellenbosch is known for two things.. It's university and it's vineyards.. you can only guess what we were there for?? A infamous Stellenbosch wine tour was more on the cards than even our hardy truck and crew could handle. 5 Vineyards (all tastings included of course) starting at 10am and finishing off round 5pm. A bottle and a half later of some of the worlds best wine consumed and we still wouldnt know the difference between a Merlot and Pinos Gris.. but hey atleast we didnt notice the rain that was attempting to drown out our spirits .. alas no!
Arriving in Cape Town and the end of my African Trails tour.. It was sad to say goodbye but after such a long stint of organised travel i was eager to sink my teeth back into the backpacking way and i found the perfect opportunity after meeting an English couple who were keen to hire a car and head up the east coast for a week. And so we did... We spent a week popping in and out of places up the coast.. Oudshoorn: to ride an ostrich and squeeze through the ridiculous small tunnels of the cango caves. Jeffery's Bay: My 1st taste of
surfing and what amazing waves. Wilderness: out-door activites central including zip-lining over canyons and canoeing in the wilderness nature reserve. Finishing back up in Cape Town exhausted but well satisfied with out whirlwind tour of the Wester/Eastern Cape.
I spent my last week in Cape Town catching up with family and childhood friends and spending time in the city i grew up in.. It is amazing how time can standstill when it comes to friendship. I visited my old house, saw my mountain and discovered Cape Town from a new adult perspective.I couldnt have asked for a more perfect ending to an memorable trip. I think africa will probably always feel a little like home to me!
Love to all xx
