Back in Denmark after 5 years and it feels like i might have well left last week... Of course i managed to organise myself enough to arrive punctually at the best time of year where the Danes are able to do the two things in the world they undoubtly best at ... eating and drinking. Glaedelig Jul allesammen.. Merry Christmas everyone! Seeing my Danish family after so long i must admitt was a little scary ... i had no idea what it was going to be like ... but as i said before .. nothing has changed and i have spent lots of time just chillen and chatting with my danish sisters and mom. Christina ( my oldest danish sister ) and i have been enjoying the local christmas beer at more than our fair share of Julefrokost (roughly translated as christmas party's) and steadily eating our way through fantastic-tasting danish food into the new year. We held christmas this year at my danish mom's house along with her partner stig and a few others... traditionally christmas is held on the night of the 24th and it included highlights of enough food to feed a small African tribe for a year, as well as dancing around the christmas tree singing danish christmas songs (see video) that ended in a congo line down the street... amusing yes.. but not quite as amusing in minus 2 degree weather without a jacket. I got some lovely thoughtful christmas gift this year... Kristian my brothers best mate who lives in NZ but actually comes from silkeborg (ya.. long story.. now's not the time) dropped off my NZ-family prezzie's that he kindly carried half way across the world for me.. a lovely suprise! To top it all off (yes there is more!) what could better finish off a proper winter christmas than taking advantage of the outdoor ice-skating rinks... one of my all-time highlights.. soring around a lake in the icey cold wind on skates (ok .. not so much a lake .. maybe more like a big pond really.... and soring?? well that could just be an over enthusiastic adjective) Next up New Years... the plan is a hyggelig (cosy) party at Christina and Emil's flat with a few of their friends.. sound like a perfect way to start a new year to me.
