After our relatively short eight hour train journey to Ulan-Ude we headed out to find our Hostel. We knew it was in the center of town and also next to the Largest sculpture of Lenin's head in Russia, no surprise we found the Hostel pretty quickly.
We settled in and soon found that we could get a bus into Mongolia instead of a train, the bus was quicker and also a lot cheaper but we couldn't get tickets until the next day as the chap who ran the Hostel sorted out the tickets and was out of town until the morning. we popped to the supermarket bought some good food, had a cook up at the hostel and crashed out. The next day we had been planning on sight seeing but out bodies thought differently so we slept in and rested up. We popped out a little later to take a picture of the Lenin head and see where the bus will be waiting for us. By the time we got back to the hostel Dennis the owner was back and sorted out our bus tickets really quickly so we were booked on for the next morning. After talking to Dennis for a while he mentioned he played in bands and soon picked up an electric guitar in the center of the room, he then started jamming out metal solos which is always nice. The rest of the day we rested up and packed ready for the bus to Mongolia.
The next morning we met the bus in the square boarded and headed south to Mongolia. The Russian boarder was quite as it was not a major route but had a hell of a lot of security and barbwire fences that stretched off into the distance separating Mongolia and Russia. At the Russian boarder Adam took a while to get through, they also took away his passport for a while and asked a lot of questions but got though in the end, Luke had no problems, we were through into no mans land and heading towards the Mongolian boarder.
