Monday evening, 6th September. The ferry dropped us off on the opposite side of the island to where we were staying so it took us another couple of hours to finally get to our accommodation. It was a 12 hour journey all up. Ferries are well and truly dead to me. Never again.
First impression of Ibiza was pretty much what I expected. The island really only has one commodity.. Nightclubs! Every billboard or advertisement is promoting an event at a nightclub. Every single shop sells tickets to clubs on top of whatever else they're selling.
We were staying at San Antonio, which was on the west coast of the island. The area was completely suffocated with Poms. It was good though to finally be at a place that wasn't dominated by Aussies. They don't mind a drink either the Pom's. They were usually up drinking by the pool as we got home from our nights out, where they would stay for the majority of the day before moving on to the string of pubs down the road, the 'west end'.
Lewis and I probably checked in around 8, smashed a burger and then went back to our rooms to sort ourselves out for the night ahead. Shortly after we get a knock on our door by a guy selling tickets, Dom, who will go on to be our personal ticket delivery man for the rest of the week.
We (Lewis, Foxy, Kirby, Sarah, Pasha) decided to see Tiesto on our first night. Tiesto plays at Privilege every Monday night, which is the biggest nightclub in the world with 10 thousand capacity. Summary for the rest of the week; Tuesday we saw Carl Cox at Space. Wednesday we saw Eric Morrillo at Pacha, Thursday Deadmau5 at Amnesia , Friday Calvin Harris, Pete Tong & Laidback Luke at Eden, Saturday and Sunday were taken off before we saw Swedish House Mafia at Pacha on our last night!
Apart from the different clubs we went to each night, every day/night was almost identical. Take a normal day in Ibiza, we would get home after a night out at around 8, eventually get to sleep around 10-11, discontinuous sleep till about 6-7. Have our one meal for the day at around 7-8, sort out what we're doing for the night ahead, then head out around 12 and stay till close. We obviously did that for 5 days straight which eventually took its toll. Saturday and Sunday I don't think we left our beds for more than 30 minutes at any stage.
Feeling a little rejuvenated after the weekend and being our last night in Ibiza, Lewis and I headed to Cafe Mambo which is a cafe on the water on San Antonio side. Swedish House has someone warm up there at 9pm every Monday night. Was a good way to start what would go on to be, probably, our favourite night.
Comfortably the most intense party week of my life in terms of going out. There is nowhere else that I have been to, or witnessed from a distance, that compares to Ibiza on that front. Probably the most expensive week of my life as well. Tickets for clubs go for 45-50 euro on average. Drinks in clubs go for 20 euro, waters 10. When you have such high demand you can charge whatever the hell you like and people are still going to go.
A crazy week. I could see myself back there in a year or 2. Me and lewis have pending job offers to work there next season which were definitely not ruling out. Were flying back to London today. First time back since we started the trip. Can feel a surge of illness hitting me. Watching the gunners play champions league tomorrow night, pretty excited for that!
To be continued..
