Woke up early enough to see the sun rise, very nice, it was bright orange all over once the clouds had cleared. I needed a wee but didn't want to use the camper one so held on until we drove back in to town. Pat couldn't hold on so went in front of a load of people on the beach right against the camper. We arrived in the town centre and went for a wander. I didn't really fancy a walk around the shops so went and used the info sites public showers, one of the best showers I've had in a while. I got a few funny looks shaving in a public toilet and then went to the Esquires coffee house in town to use the wi-fi. There wasn't much to do in town so we headed back to the camper for lunch and left at about 1430 for Wellington.
We took a bit of a detour on the way to go to see the longest place name in the world. Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu. Which apparently means The hill on which Tamatea, the chief of great physical stature and renown, played a lament on his flute to the memory of his brother. We all took many photos and then headed back to route 2 to make our way as close to Wellington as possible. We finally decided to stop just short of a small town at about 7 for dinner. When we had finished eating I volunteered to make the tea for everybody. As I was putting tub of sugar away it fell out of the cupboard landing directly on the 4 cups of tea, the lid came off and sugar went everywhere. There was about a kilo of it all over the hobs, in the sink, in the cups of tea, on and under the fridge and all over the floor. I spent about at hour and a half cleaning it all up while struggling to drink my tea as it was 50% sugar. What a disaster.
