The Blue Mountains - Just got back from the blue mountains, the trip was quality, started off at the oz experience office where we were met by our buck tooth tour guide, who had decided to be a bit of a joker and wear some false teeth and a wig, which lets be honest no one fell for but he was a quality guide so ill let him off. We left sydney at about 8 and where in the mountains for half nineish where we meet some kangaroos, they were very cute and some even decided to have a bit of kangaroo lovin', that was interesting! The rest of the day we spent touring the mountains with our guide, and saw the famous three sisters, of which i've got many pictures, at lunch david was attacked by ducks which was actually hillarious and then we retired to the Katoomba YHA.
Day 2 - Our second day began at the early hour of 7 oçlock because we had to be at the canyoning office for nine. We got up and dressed and made our way to the fresh cafe for some very tasty bannana bread (lee is now addicted) and then on to the office. When we arrived we were told to collect a pack and fill it with a harness helmet and water proof bag, once we had all our gear and had doned our waterproof shoes we got in the van and were driven to our first absail. The first decent was a very easy 5m drop to get us started, we then moved on to a 15m drop, which was very nerve racking, but once over the edge it was fine. Unfortunatly rob wasn't able to overcome his fear of heights and couldn't manage the decent. After the initial relief of completing 15 metres we quickly moved onto the monstorus 30m drop, which was made even worse due to it only being 30m if you landed on a lege, if you missed the lege you were all the way down into the bottom of the vally. I managed to power through the fear and get over the edge, but once i was over there was only about 10m of cliff, the rest of the way i was just hanging by the harness and lowering myself down with the rope, there were some amazing views of the mountain from this position. The walk back up from this drop was just as scary as the absail down and some might sugest that you could have done with a safety rope for it, i also managed to get lost and ended up almost at the top of the mountain. After a hearty lunch (rob some how packed away 5 sandwiches) we went off to the canyon to do what we had been building up to all day. We wet-suited up, put all our stuff in the waterproof bags and stepped into the icy waters of the canyon. It was stunning, like something out of jurassic park, i just wish i had some photos, after about 10mins of walking we were at our first water jump, a swift backwards seat drop into a frezzing cold pool, lovely! An hour or so and two more water jumps later we were at the exit: a 30m waterfall. Water pouring into my face, i slowly edged my way down further and further until i heard the reassuring voice of the instructor at the bottom, "ok on 3 you jump, 1, 2, 3...". I clambered out of the water soaking wet and cold and looked back on the waterfall. In the evening we had a little look round katoomba, which didn't take too long as theres not much to it, and found a little sports bar with a few pool tables, me and david were about to have a game when we were invited to join a tournament, 5 dollar entry and a free schooner, we couldn't say no. Unfortunalty itt was nine ball pool, which is the most ridiculus game ive ever played but it was still a good laugh and dave even made it to the semis, and was "robbed" apparently. It was good to meet some local aussies
Day 3 - After having to wake up early for the past 3 days we were all looking forward to a lie in this morning. Oh no that couldn't happen though as we were all awoken to the sound of the fire alarm. After lying in bed for a few minuites hoping it would stop we grudgingly draged ourselves out of bed and out into the blinding sunlight. The firebrigade turned up and gave the all clear, and the source of the alarm was revealed to be burnt toast! We went back to bed for a couple of hours sleep then went and hired bikes. Getting up the mountain was a bit of a mission and we lost lee on the way but the views were more than worth it. We got back drenched in sweat, showered the got the bus back to the shabby house.
