Our weekend in puerto viejo is almost finished, just waiting for the bus back to San Jose. This is a definant must in costa rica its like a completely different counrty on the carribean side! We got off the bus to swealtering heat, jeans was a definant error, and immediatly greeted by crys of "taxi taxi" or "you have somewhere to stay amigo" one old american said he had a room for 2 people in his house with hot showers, we told him there were 6 of us n he just said, "oh well if you want some puff come to me". We decided to stay at Rocking J's, a cool hostel were you could sleep in hamocks, had to be done! The owner was a middle aged american stoner guy who had a sign on the front desk that said "no weed at the front desk" yet he was there puffing away! Once we got all our stuff sorted we headed to the beach for a bit. It wasn't the greatest beach ive been on it was very rocky/coraly so there wasnt much space to swim and we were shocked when a local tico appeared to dive head first into the rocks! Well actually a swimming hole but it got us, we had a swim in that for a bit then went out for dinner. We had a few cocktails on the beach, Pina collada's, standard, then had some typical costa rican food, not quite sure why as we'd been getting it for the past week, and then on to stanfords, one of the 2 clubs in the town!
After a horrible night sleeping in a hammock with no sheet we got up and went searching for a good beach to go surfing on, eventually we found one and hired out some boards. The guy we rented them from was very concerned about our lack of surfing experience, but let us take them anyway. Big mistake! After about an hour of surfing in the really strong currents i came back to the beach to catch my breath, lying on the beach i saw the 2 halves of Patrick's surf board and just started laughing. I couldnt believe it i thought the guy was being over cautious when he said they break easily but clearly not. Patrick had to pay the guy 300 dollars! I did manage to catch a couple of good waves thou!
In the evening we went out for a meal in a restaurant owned by a British guy and his wife and we also saw the other group of people from the language school there. We went to the other club in puerto viejo: johny's bar, and had a few drinks there but noone was that up for it i think we were all a bit nackered from surfing.
Today we didn't really do much just chilled out on the beach and in rocking j's, i got a burrito with a piece of glass in it thats about as exciting as it gets! I forgot to mention about castros the night before we came absolutly legendary place and we'll definatly be going there again! (note to self Yuan thought a ladyboy was fit)
