Arenal!
Wooo active volcano! We got to arenal around 3 checked into our hostel and were instantly persauded to go on a tour of arenal with our hostel, he did turn out to be the cheapest which was good, we decided not to go until the next day thou so we spent the rest of the afternoon catching up on sleep after another night out in Castros, which is now definatly my favorite place in costa rica. We practised a bit of the salsa and merenge we'd learnt in the school there, although we were nothing compared to the ticos, who were awesome! After a good kip we went out for a meal and then on to the biggest club in la fortuna. Yes it was big but there was a distinct lack of people there and we were a bit dissapointed with it but oh well.
The next morning we went looking for something to do before we did our tour but quickly discovered theres not much to do here apart from the volcano enless you have a lot of time and money, so we just miled about until 3 when our tour started. Right on cue it clouded over and stated raining just asour tour started, but we didn't really care we were used to the rain now. The tour started with a tour through the rainforest where we saw a sloth some monkeys and a couple of tucans. The guide gave us some info on the rainforest and the plants and stuff and then we went on to the volcano. We waited for the rain to clear and while we were waiting we saw an anteater crawling across a brigde, which is definatly the best animal ive seen so far as it was soo close up! Eventualy there was a bit of a break in the clouds and we managed to see some lava trickling down the side of the volcano. After we went to the hot springs for a nice hot soak in the volcanic water. We went on the most leathal slide there and i nearly broke my neck very scary! The hot springs were definatly the highlight of the day. In the evening we managed to meet up with some others from the language school and went to this small club above a restaurant, it was cool especially as there was quite a big group of us.
Today we went to the waterfall at la fortuna, easily the highlight of the weekend and the most beautiful waterfall ive seen, we went for a refreshing dip in the river and then headed back to catch the bus.
The que for the bus is massive i really hope we get a seat cause i dont fancy a 5 hour trip standing up...
