Sorry if this is rubbish but I've had type this damn thing twice!
Chung ping! That's not 'hello' in Cantonese but let's pretend. Four day's into our trip and we decided it was a good idea to write an update on our amazing adventure of amazingness.
The adventure started at Heathrow Airport when I (Luke) saw a celebrity and I (Ollie) told them it was Clive Owen from Sin City. Wow. The flight was fine, went really quickly and had no problems. Arrived in Hong Kong on time and took a taxi to our hotel. We were a bit worried when our taxi driver laughed at where we were staying and said 'very very cheap' a million times. We arrived at the hotel/shanty town and although it looked as though the building was covered in poo our room is actually very nice. Small, but pleasant and very clean. We didn't do much on the first day, but wandered around the harbour at night and saw the amazing skyline (check out the photo section). Had a few beers then wandered back to the lovely hotel.
We were woken up the next morning by a very large drill (something we have had to get used to) and headed to the Star Ferry to get across to Kong Kong. We are staying across the river in Kowloon but it only takes 5 minutes on the ferry and costs about 20p. Bargain. We walked around the skyscrapers and headed up the mountain on the Peak Tram. It was really steep, about 45 degrees, and the views were great. We reached the top where there were restaurnants, small shops and arcade games. The top floor was an outdoor viewing area and you could see the whole city. It was breathtakingly splendid. We then headed back down and took the lift to the 43rd floor of the Bank of China for more panoramic views. We then went out for a meal which was lush but the dessert was rank (again, check out the photos). We were on a mission that night to get hammered and we succeeded pretty well! Ended up getting drunk with some local graudates and danced the night away with them and some Swedish guys. We didn't get to sleep till around 6am but it was a great night.
Woke up extremely hungover and the Avanue of Stars to see the Bruce Lee statue. Along the way we got pestered buy loads of Chinese school kids on a trip who were asking questions for a project named 'I Love Hong Kong'. Still hungover, we met up with Ollie and Jon's school friend Leah and went out that night with her and some other people from the hotel. A girl from Israel called Paulina, a guy with a weird laugh called Oola from Norway and a nerdy librarian called Adam from Oz. Went to some posh bars and the beer was only 70p a bottle. Good stuff! Ended the night in another bar and requested 'Mmm bop' by Hanson which went down a treat. Randonly started touching people's noses and said that it was a British tradition. By the end of the night we could see people all around the bar touching eachothers noses. Very immature I know but also very funny. Again, we got back really late.
The morning we woke up at about 3pm, oops! We were going to visit the Happy Races (horse racing) but we were too late due to our own stupidity and lack of organisation! We ended up walking down Nathan Road (about 3 miles long) to Temple Market. Here they sold a bunch of junk and cheap stuff. Jon bought a Rocket Man flying toy to make our shanty town room more homely (pictures in the picture section). It didn't last very long, Jon woke up in the night with Rocket Man resting on his backside. We had some rank food that night. We avioded what looked to be half a loaf of bd on it end with a blob of butter on the top to be eaten with a fork as a desert! Yum! but we did order these weird pizza things which ended up being a load of gross food shoved on a pastry base. We took a few bites of it, paid then ran to MacDonalds! Yep, we really are making the most of this cultural experiance! Had an early night for once although we still didn't get much sleep because of loads of noise.
Today we headed back over to Kong Kong on the ferry and took the bus to Stanley, its a market beach town on the other side of the island. The views from the bus were sweet as it meandered up the hillside. Walked through Stanley market and bought some hats to blend in with the locals, many laughs at our expense (see photos). Visited a few temples and prayed to Tin Hau (Luke.. i did NOT pray!). Bus it back to central and there seem to be thousands of Phillipino woman congregating there! apparently they're all housekeepers and have nowhere to go on a sunday so congregate in the centre, play games and sing songs! we got more laughs for dancing along! catch the ferry back to Kowloon and now were sat here typing ths out again! going to watch the football later with the locals and then get up early to visit LanTau tomorrow.
All in all we're having a rocking time here and all our spirits are high! Honk Kong and Kowloon are really great places, the locals are very freindly and take it upon themselves to welcome us. looking forward to our trip to Bangkok and the rest of Thailand in a few days where we'll be sure to make another journal entry.
Thank you all for your messages and make sure you keep them coming!
