Day 3
I woke early this morning concerned I might catch what Ryan had, Ryan felt heaps better. I'm didn't sleep well but I'm starting to adjust to the time difference.
The weather is starting to heat up (a sunny 22 today) so I went searching for sunnies to wear. We walked to Marienplatz and stuck our heads into a few Churches and the beauty of these places takes your breath away. I didn't really feel like id spent enough time in Munich, I really love the City and after exploring it for a couple days I realised the city was providing me with everything I was hoping to gain from my travels, history, culture, and a point of difference from what i know. I would have love to have spent another day lazing about in Marienplatz or one of the many beer gardens.
We checked out of the Hotel at 11am and picked up the higher car (2015 Hyundai Sante fe) from Europcar. Ryan was up for the challenge of driving on the right side of the road in a busy city putting me in charge of navigation. The term 'stay right' was repeated constantly but Ryan never had an issue, he adapted immediately with ease.
We made the decision to visit Dachau Concentration Camp, located 30mins north of Munich. Dachau itself is a very leafy beautify outer suburb that now wraps itself around the camp. I had know idea what to expect but on arrival it certainly had a haunting feel with high fences and the guards towers shadowing over everything. The camp, now a memorial has been beautifully represented in its current form and it's clear a collective of designers from various disciplines have worked together to create a place that maintains the character of a death camp yet symbolises life and survival through the many strategically placed dramatic memorials pieces that still somehow blend into the landscape. The term 'Never Again' is referenced all over the camp. It was a moving experience visiting a place with a dark history and I would have once again liked to have spent more time there.
Ryan and I made a mad rush to the autobahn, we needed to cover 190km in 1 hr which is possible if the navigation works. We headed (at first in the wrong direction) to Fussen to meet Nathan and Myranda. Nathan had organised accommodation for us and asked that we meet them at 3pm in town, we arrived late around 4.30 and so did they so given we had to means to communicate it worked out well.
Fussen is a beautiful little town located 1hr south of Munich on the foot of the alps, I was happy we cancelled our accommodation in Innsbruck to catch up with Nathan and Myranda and it was a little surreal to be in a place eating food and boozing away with such good friends but i constantly missed Sherri and Ebony and felt really sad that I was not able to share this with them.
We stayed at a bed and breakfast and our hosts Pia and George were so polite, accommodating and we'll spoken that I immediately felt comfortable in their home. George is a head chief at a local Bavarian restaurant just a few minutes walk from the house so naturally we ate their that night and again I ate pork knuckle.
Back at the accommodation I was able to finally to connect to the internet and saw a few messages from Shez asking me to record a good night message for Ebony so she could hear my voice.
