We left Kaikoura for the journey to the north island. Arrived in Picton at the top of the south island and had to wait to board the interislander ferry.
The journey took about 3 hours and was choppy to say the least. Just sat with my head on the table for most of the time to try and block out the noise of vomiting.
We arrived into Wellington,New zealand's capital city and checked into our hostel. Didn't make it any further than the kitchen that night.
In the morning Gabby left, another one of our gang. Just me and the 2 girls I started with left now.
With our 2 days in Wellington (which must be one of the world's smallest capital cities) we went to the Te Papa museum. It's raved about as the best thing in the city. It is well worth a visit but not quite the spectacle it's made out to be, but maybe I've been spoiled growing up in London.
We went on the cable car, walked through the botanical gardens, saw the beehive shaped government building and that's about all there is to Wellington.
Our non-cultural activities included a 4 hour coffee in Gloria Jeans and a game of killer pool in the hostel bar. I would recommend any traveller to get good at pool quick. You can make so many friends round a pool table, not to mention all the beer you can win!
I'd heard so many good things about Wellington I was a bit disappointed. But I think it could be the kind of place that's better to live in than visit and it's unfortunately come at a time when we're running out of money and the sunshine of Fiji is getting ever closer.
