On our first day in phnom penh, the capital of Cambodia we went to see the sights of the pol pot regime. First was the genocide museum which was set in a Khmer rouge prison which actually used to be a school. It was pretty horrific. Our guide lived through the genocide and gave us graphic derails of the killings. There were pretty brutal photos around and mixed with the mist intense heat yet, not a good thing. Everyone felt sick and one girl passed out.
After this we went to the killing fields where the mass murders took place. At first it seems like a nice park but you soon see the mass graves and as you walk around you can see the bits of bone that come to the surface when it rains. Grim.
We all went for some much needed happy hour cocktails by the water and then off to dinner at our tour guide's house. He runs an English school so we sat and chatted to the kids before eating the most delicious Cambodian food. Finished off with a shot of tarantula rice wine... Rank.
Everyone is buying these baggy genie trousers so today I followed the mc hammer craze and bought some. They're so cool in the heat, I may look a div but I don't care!!!
