I got a bus to Puerto Iguazu on Tuesday.I had been told about how good the buses in Argentina are and they really are amazing! You have an option of buying a semi-cama, cama or suite seat. The differences are in the angle that your seat reclines back to and the quality of food and drink you are served during the journey. I went for the cheapest semi-cama option and it was just like being on a plane only with more room! We had a hot meal for dinner and then a breakfast in the morning. The journey was 18 hours and it was really comfortable. They even had films playing too!
I arrived in Puerto Iguazu at 14.30 on Wednesday and checked into my hostel. I then walked down to a view point where Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil meet which was pretty cool as you could see all three countries at once. That evening I went to an asado (bbq) and a samba evening at another hostel which was a bit tongue in cheek when they were dragging people up to join in but fun none the less!
The next day I went to the Argentinian side of the falls with a couple I had met on the bus (sally and sam). We got the bus to the park and then there are trains and a series of walk ways you can go on to get close to the falls. They were really amazing! The extent of them is hard to imagine as they are the widest in the world covering almost 3 km! They are also amongst trees and forest and probably don't look that different to how they did when they were first discovered which I liked. In the afternoon Sam and I went on one of the boat trips they offer which take you right up to one of the waterfalls and you get soaked!! We were told to do it right at the end of the day and we were glad we did as it was not a comfortable bus journey back!
Yesterday (Friday) I went to the Brazilian side of the falls. You can't get as close here but you get a really good panoramic view of the whole falls and can appreciate their size. It rained all day which wasn't so great as we got really wet but it was still impressive. Many people told me not to bother going to the Brazilian side as after seeing the falls from Argentina it is a disappointment but I disagree and would still recommend a visit to get a different view of the falls.
Today I am getting a bus to Rosario which is Argentina's second largest city. Its on the way to Cordoba which is my next stop. Its stopped raining now and the sun has come out which makes a nice change! Hopefully it will be sunny further south.
