Our bus driver had said 'Here's Rainbow Beach, blink and you'll miss it' when she dropped us off here and she was definately right! It took us about 5 minutes to explore the town - im not sure it can be called that though it was so small, so we decided we needed to go to Fraser Island or move onto somewhere else.

Natalie and Catherine, 2 girls we met on the Oz bus in Cairns, asked us if we wanted to hire a car with them and go over to the island for 1 night just the four of us. None of us had enough time to do our original trip of 3 days 2 nights now that we couldnt leave today as planned so this seemed like the next best thing. YWe waited until 4pm to make our decision as this was when someone was due back from the island, and he was going to assess the damage the cyclone had done and decide whether it was safe for us to go. In the meantime we booked ourselves on the Oz bus out of Rainbow Beach and sorted our accommodation in case this trip fell through as well!

Luckily at 4pm we were told we were able to go to the island, but half of it was closed due to cyclone damage. We had to watch videos about driving on Fraser Island and safetly whilst there. This evening the four of us went to get our food for the trip and then packed up our things ready for the morning. We were quite pleased we weren't going in a big group of 11 people like everyone else because there were lots of arguments in the supermarket over what to buy, whereas we sorted ours very easily.
