Munch painted several versions of this picture - in 1893 he did two, in 1895 the most colourful one, and another in 1910, all on cardboard. The 1910 version and also Munch's "Madonna", were stolen from the wall of the Munch Museum in Oslo in 2004 by armed men, but luckily retrieved in 2006, although slightly damaged. This 1893 version was stolen in 1994 from the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design. It, too, was recovered, but fortunately, unharmed.
